Horse Racing Tips: Katie Midwinter's best bets on Wednesday including 11/1 Kempton pick

Wolverhampton, 15:00 - Back Guernsey Angel E/W @ 9/110.00

David Evans-trained Guernsey Angel is currently on a rating of 66, 4lb below her last winning mark, putting her in with a chance of returning to the winners' enclosure at a track where she is proven in this 6f handicap. She shaped with some promise as a juvenile last term, and has shown she still retains ability with a few competitive efforts this year despite failing to reach the winners' enclosure as of yet during 2026.

The daughter of Harry Angel finished second at Leicester to Amelia's Joy last month, posing a threat at odds of 15/28.50 on that occasion to make the frame, and was far from disgraced in her subsequent run at Windsor. She needs to bounce back from her latest effort, when reported to have never been travelling, but could do so from a workable mark under Darragh Keenan, now back on the all-weather, on a surface where she has recorded both career wins from six starts.

Bet of the day: Catterick, 15:15 - Back Run This Way @ 6/42.50

Top weight Run This Way has been luckless in recent outings but remains in good form and has proven of late that she is capable of performing from a mark of 58, 7lb higher than when winning a 17-runner Thirsk handicap in May.

The likeable eight-year-old mare still retains plenty of ability and finished third of 16 runners in her latest start at Doncaster. From an unchanged mark, she can go close once again with a bold bid under David Nolan.

Trained by Paul Midgley and making her 55th career start in this 6f contest, Run This Way could be worth keeping onside and makes appeal as she bids for a ninth win.

Wolverhampton, 16:00 - Back Spaceage Love Song @ 5/16.00

Course-and-distance winner Spaceage Love Song may be worth keeping the faith in now back in a Classified race under 7lb claiming Joe Bradnam for Michael Bell.

He's dropping in trip following a fourth-placed effort over a mile-and-three-quarters at Yarmouth when last seen, sent off at huge odds of 33/134.00 that day, and could fare better over this shorter distance with proven form at the track.

The four-year-old gelding's latest win came in this company under this rider when successful here in February, and, on his return to Wolverhampton, he could put in a more competitive performance than in his latest couple of runs and return to form.

Bellewstown, 17:35 - Back Red Glory @ 4/15.00

Red Glory makes appeal in this extended two-and-a-half-mile handicap hurdle for Henry de Bromhead and Darragh O'Keeffe. He remains potentially well-treated from a mark of 126 following competitive efforts in big-field handicaps.

In his penultimate start, the eight-year-old finished a length third to subsequent Galway Hurdle winner Putapoundinthejar at odds of 28/129.00 over 2m1f at this track, before finishing fourth in a 20-runner contest at Ballybrit over the same distance.

Unexposed over this trip, the step up in distance could bring with it some further improvement from the son of Harzand, who has been performing consistently well recently. In calmer waters, he could get his head back in front, appearing on an upward trajectory currently with the scope for further progression.

Newbury, 18:30 - Back Abundant E/W @ 6/17.00

Three-year-old gelding Abundant is dropping in class following a creditable effort in fifth behind Exclusive Code in a 19-runner Goodwood handicap. He had previously finished a three-length third to Ciarrai Abu, a winner in a higher class contest since, up 11lb, with another subsequent winner Crest Of Fire, currently rated 98, in second.

At Goodwood in June, Abundant finished ahead of Ciarrai Abu, when meeting on level weights, when finishing half-a-length third to Annastarzy, now rated 10lb higher. There's enough substance to the form to suggest the Tom Ward-trained contender, who was also a good fourth to Wild Thoughts on reappearance at Windsor earlier this season, can put in a competitive effort from a mark of 80 in this company.

There could be more to come from the son of Lucky Vega, who has enjoyed a good season so far, running well in tough races, and could finally return to the winners' enclosure.

Newbury, 18:30 - Back River Card E/W @ 13/27.50

Handicap debutant River Card is an intriguing contender for Brian Meehan under Tom Marquand in this competitive contest. He has noteworthy form from his debut campaign last term coming into this race, and, if he's ready following a 326-day break, a mark of 86 could prove lenient.

On debut, the son of Hello Youmzain finished a length second in Deauville to Northern Champion, a subsequent Listed winner rated as high as 109, with Lommi, a Group Three winner and Group Two runner-up since, in third, subsequent Group Three second Jabracadabra in fourth, and a number of other future winners in behind, including Listed-winning Hello Jo. 

River Card then beat four rivals to shed his maiden tag at Ascot, finishing a neck ahead of a rising star in Maltese Cross, a Group One winner since and Derby runner-up, with Lost Boys, subsequent four-time winner now rated 103, in third, Echo Of Stars, a winner since, in fourth, and Study Of Words, currently rated 94, further behind in fifth.

There's a huge amount of substance to the form and, although River Card disappointed in his latest outing, he remains completely unexposed having shaped with great promise as a juvenile. If he has trained on, there could be plenty of further progression to come from the lightly-raced contender, who is one to note on the Newbury card.

Kempton, 19:21 - Back Shushu @ 4/15.00

In-form trainer Roger Varian saddles lightly-raced filly Shushu in this 7f handicap, a daughter of Night Of Thunder who is bidding for a second career success in her fourth outing under Ray Dawson. She wasn't able to make a successful start on handicap debut at Carlisle when last seen, but could fare better from a 1lb lower rating here, and may be worth keeping the faith in. 

On debut, she finished second to subsequent Listed winner Secret Of Life, unbeaten in three starts and currently rated 102, in a Haydock novice event, well-beaten by the winner but pulling four-lengths clear of the rest of the field. She then beat Starlight Lass by a couple of lengths in a Yarmouth maiden which included a few subsequent winners.

Unexposed in handicap company and entitled to continue improving, Shushu could put in a threatening performance in this Kempton contest and makes appeal as she bids to resume her progression.

Kempton, 20:21 - Back Society Kiss E/W @ 11/112.00

In the penultimate race on the card at Kempton, a 6f handicap, Society Kiss is one to consider for John Mackie in the hands of PJ McDonald. She's another lightly-raced filly who makes appeal on the card, and has shaped with promise in both of her latest two runs including when second to Regal Envoy on handicap debut when last seen.

Dropping in class from an unchanged mark, she could pose a threat as she bids to return to the winners' enclosure for the first time since recording a debut success in a competitive Ascot maiden last year for former trainer Ralph Beckett.

On reappearance following a 314-day absence, the three-year-old filly returned to form when just denied in a Southwell novice event won by Shes Got A Brother, having previously featured in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot won by future Classic winner True Love.

Having performed well in all runs bar a Group Two appearance during her career to date, and unexposed in handicaps from a potentially lenient rating, Society Kiss is an interesting contender who could put in a bold bid.
