Horse Racing Tips: Katie Midwinter's best bets on Sunday including 40/1 Galway fancy

Galway, 13:50 - Back My Trump Card E/W @ 40/141.00

John McConnell-trained My Trump Card is an interesting runner at a price in this extended two-mile handicap hurdle under 4lb claimer Shane Fitzsimons. He carries a hefty weight off 120 on yard debut, returning over timber having been seen over fences for Gordon Elliott last year, and when last appearing in April, but could outrun his odds having shown ability in the past.

The eight-year-old gelding is unexposed in handicaps over hurdles and could go well from his current mark. He didn't progress over fences, but showed form behind some notable rivals including Grangeclare West earlier in his career, beating Dr Eggman to win his maiden over obstacles, and it may be too early to give up on him.

Dusseldorf, 14:40 - Back Sea The Storm @ [SP]

In the Group One 168th Henkel-Preis der Diana, the German Oaks at Dusseldorf, Sea The Storm could put in a bold bid if she can improve on her latest couple of efforts and return to form.

Trained by William Haggas, the daughter of Sea The Stars hasn't been at her best in recent months but did beat her promising stablemate Pierian at Wetherby on stable debut following a 189-day break, having shown promise as a juvenile last year.

Representing the David Menuisier yard during her debut campaign, Sea The Storm won on debut at Sandown beating subsequent winner Cherry Baker as well as now 99-rated On Message, before placing a Baden-Baden Group Three.

The experience she has gained so far should hold her in good stead in this race. Although improvement is required, this challenge could suit with first-time cheekpieces possibly capable of sparking a resurgence.

Galway, 14:55 - Back Smallcraftwarning E/W @ 10/111.00

In the hands of Bryan Carver, Smallcraftwarning could give a good account of himself in this competitive extended two-and-three-quarter-miles handicap chase. He's a likeable gelding who put in a creditable effort in fourth over hurdles at Killarney when last seen, and has proven form over the larger obstacles. 

Although he's currently 9lb higher than his previous win in a handicap chase, he has run well from a similar mark since, including when second over this course-and-distance from the same rating. 

With course form in his favour and a tenacious attitude, the John Patrick Ryan-trained runner warrants each-way consideration and could make the frame.

Chester, 15:20 - Back Ardisia E/W @ 25/126.00

Hugo Palmer-trained Ardisia could outrun his odds in this contest under in-form rider Cieren Fallon. He wasn't seen to best effect in a Group Three at Royal Ascot when last seen, but has plenty of form in black-type contests, including when winning a 15-runner Listed race at Redcar last term. 

The three-year-old has amassed plenty of valuable experience during his career to date and has form at the track. He could outrun his odds having shown form against the likes of Mission Central over the past year, and shouldn't be discounted.

Galway, 15:30 - Back Blood Destiny @ 7/24.50

Top weight Blood Destiny returns to the handicap sphere from a mark of 150, still unexposed in a race of this nature with enough ability on his day to suggest he can put in a bold bid under Paul Townend.

The Closutton representative won a Group Three earlier this year before chasing home Energumene at Group Two level. He has sometimes fallen short in Graded races when expected to pose a threat, and can be inconsistent, but he is a top performer at his best with plenty of talent.

The seven-year-old chestnut finished second to Zanahiyr at this track last summer, therefore has some course form, and should run well for Willie Mullins.

Deauville, 15:40 - Back Moon Target E/W @ 12/113.00

In the Group One Prix Rothschild at Deauville, Blue Bolt and Precise reoppose having finished first and second in the Falmouth Stakes when last seen. It's likely to be a thrilling rematch between the pair, but Moon Target is a contender to consider each-way against the main protagonists, still relatively unexposed and capable of outrunning her odds.

The Sir Mark Prescott-trained filly showed promise at the beginning of her career last term, winning both of her first two starts before being denied by Precise in a Goodwood Group Three in her first Stakes appearance. She couldn't build on a good start toward the end of the season, but put in a decent effort on reappearance when last seen in her sole start of the year so far. 

At Royal Ascot in the Coronation Stakes, the daughter of Cracksman finished a two-length fourth to Precise at odds of 33/134.00, running well for a long way before fading in final stages. She's entitled to improve for the outing and could go well at a price.

Chester, 15:52 - Back Roman Dragon E/W @ 14/115.00

Roman Dragon has plenty of experience around this track and won a handicap here from a 2lb lower mark in May. He's running over an extra couple of furlongs this time around, and does need to prove himself over the trip on recent form, but has form over 7f earlier in his career and shouldn't be discounted.

Making his 59th appearance, the seven-year-old gelding is one to note in familiar surroundings from a workable mark. He's a likeable performer and a Stakes winner, and could outrun his odds under David Probert.

Chester, 16:52 - Back Eagle Day E/W @ 18/119.00

David Evans-trained Eagle Day is one to note from a mark of 62 in the Chester finale on Sunday. He's 5lb lower than when recording his last win, when placed first on the all-weather at Wolverhampton during the spring, and is 9lb lower than his previous Turf success.

The son of Kodiac put in a creditable effort at odds of 25/126.00 in his 50th career start when last seen finishing a length-and-three-quarters fourth at Wolverhampton, and could build on that return to form under John Egan here.
