Hurdling debutant Chico Magnifica is an interesting contender for the Olly Murphy team, purchased for 82,000gns and entered in the Triumph Hurdle. He was previously trained by Karl Burke, for whom he won twice over the middle distance on the Flat, including when last seen over a mile-and-a-half at Hamilton.
By Belardo, who has produced a number of winners in this sphere, Chico Magnifica is out of a Mizzen Mast mare in Magnifica, and is a brother to high achieving Grade One winner Gold Phoenix. There's plenty of class in his pedigree, also related to another Group One winner in Giant Treasure, as well as some jumpers including the likes of Coach Lane and FortificationI.
An interesting contender on debut, Chico Magnifica could be worth keeping onside for an in-form team.

Mahons Glory is an exceptionally likeable performer who has performed well generally since joining the Dylan Cunha yard from Patrick Neville. He wasn't the most straightforward earlier in his career, particularly as a novice chaser, sometimes losing a race pre flagfall, becoming fractious in the preliminaries, but he seems to have put that mostly behind him now and living up to his potential.
The son of Fame And Glory finished a good second to Hyland on chasing debut in 2024, before getting off the mark over fences on current yard debut at Leicester last spring, defying odds of 16/117.00 from the front. He doubled up at Stratford in his subsequent start before finding only Mark Of Gold too good at Sandown, narrowly denied a hat-trick at odds of 14/115.00 in another excellent effort.
This term, Mahons Glory has been a joy to watch over the Grand National fences in the Grand Sefton and the Becher, jumping for fun enthusiastically. He has lacked the staying prowess or finishing kick to win on both occasions, but a return to Merseyside for the Topham could perfectly suit if that is the plan.
This is a race in which Mahons Glory can make his presence felt. He makes appeal at the weights, 1lb below his last win, and should be able to put in a bold bid under his regular partner Lee Edwards.
