It's a big afternoon in Longchamp on l'Arc de Triomphe day for Joseph O'Brien who saddles three runners on the card as well as having four runners back home in Ireland...
"She is better than she showed there and can hopefully show it in this. She is one that won't have too many worries if the forecast rain arrives."
- Joseph O'Brien on Thundering Nights
Looks ready for longer trip
Agartha has had a great season, winning the Silver Flash Stakes at Leopardstown and the Debutante Stakes at the Curragh before finishing a good second in the Moyglare Stud Stakes. She looks ready for this longer trip and looks to set the bar for the rest of them to come up to. There is a lot of rain due, but it isn't a big concern for her. Hopefully she runs another big race.
Hoping to show something better than last time
Thundering Nights is another filly that has had a big season for us, winning the Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh. She was a bit below form in the Blandford Stakes last time, but she was carrying a penalty and the race didn't really go her way. She is better than she showed there and can hopefully show it in this. She is one that won't have too many worries if the forecast rain arrives.
Any rain would be a big negative
Thunder Moon has been a bit hit and miss this season, but he showed when a close second in the Prix Jean Prat at Deauville that he retains most of his ability. This trip is probably his best, but the forecast rain isn't in his favour. We'll most likely let him take his chance and hope for the best, but we'll be more hopeful than confident.
Big step up in class but he should improve
San Salvador won a bumper at Killarney in August and made a winning hurdling debut at Listowel last week. He should improve from that experience and while this is a big step up in class for him, we are looking forward to seeing how he measures up.
Hoping for a solid run
Darasso has been acquitting himself well under both codes all summer and while he looks up against it at these weights, hopefully he'll run another solid race.
Can be competitive following chase win
Busselton made it third-time lucky over fences when winning a maiden chase at Listowel last time. His jumping was good that day and while this is a much stronger race, we are hopeful that he'll be competitive.
Solid chance with conditions in favour
Seanbhothar has run solid races in his two completed starts over fences and this race is tailor made for him, being confined to horses that are rated 102 or less over hurdles (he is rated 101). He looks to have a very solid chance.
