Joseph O'Brien: Form entitles Pista to go close in Group 1 at Longchamp

Joseph O'Brien has two runners at Longchamp and six at Tipperary on Saturday

Joseph O'Brien has a couple of good chances on the first day of Arc weekend at Longchamp, while he also has six running for the stable at Tipperary...

"Getting her into the frame would be a great result, but her form entitles her to a winning chance."

- Joseph O'Brien on Pista

Can run well with drop in trip and ground to his liking

Longchamp 13:35 - Patrick Sarsfield

Patrick Sarsfield has had a great season so far, winning three times including a Group 3 and finishing a close third in a Group 1 in Germany. He was a little bit disappointing when stepped up to a mile-and-a-half at Leopardstown last time and we think the return to a mile-and-a-quarter on softer ground will very much be a help to him. His best form entitles him to a big chance and hopefully he'll run well.

Hopeful she'll handle surface and have a good chance

Longchamp 14:15 - Pista

Pista has been a revelation in recent months and we were thrilled to see her win the Park Hill at Doncaster last time. It is brilliant to win that class of race with a well-bred filly like this that is owned by a great owner-breeder like Scott Heider. This race looked the obvious next step for her and while heavy ground isn't ideal, she handled soft ground very well when winning her maiden and I'd be hopeful she'll handle this surface better than most. Getting her into the frame would be a great result, but her form entitles her to a winning chance.

Expect him to come on from debut run

Tipperary 12:45 - Eternal Presence

Eternal Presence ran quite well on his debut at Killarney, he was just undone by greenness. He missed the kick and came off the bridle quite early. It was just a bit much for him on the day. He can be expected to come on a lot from that experience though and I'd be hopeful that he will show a good chunk of improvement. He should run well.

Both will enjoy conditions and can go well

Tipperary 13:50 - Vafortino and Royal Blend

Vafortino has had a very good season already, winning twice. This represents a step back up in class for him, but the style of his win at Roscommon last time entitles him to take his chance. He seems to handle soft ground well and will hopefully acquit himself well.

Royal Blend is still a maiden, but she has been running well in maidens and with her being proven on testing ground, we thought it was worth chancing her in this company. There is an awful lot of upside for her, as getting her Listed-placed would be a massive result, and very little downside for running her here. If it doesn't work out, she can go back into median auction maiden company next time.

Tough race but hopefully my three will run well

Tipperary 14:25 - A New Dawn, Unforgetable and Wilds Dreams

A New Dawn has been running well without winning in stakes company all season. It would be fantastic if we could win one with her before the season is out, but this does look a tough race. Hopefully she'll run well again.

Unforgetable is in a very similar boat to A New Dawn and we'll just be hoping she acquits herself well again.

Wilds Dreams is a really interesting filly that joined us from Argentina earlier this year. She ran with credit in the face of a stiff task on her Irish debut in the Matron Stakes and this represents a drop in grade for her. The softer ground is an unknown for her, but hopefully she'll run well.
