For the final time this week Alan Thompson has a royal connection with his two selections, one from Bath and the other at Chelmsford...

Prince Imperial will enjoy this step up in trip

Prince Imperial was previously with Sir Michael Stoute but the three-year-old has now moved to Richard Hughes who has put the cheekpieces straight on him. This step up in trip could be just what the colt needs having stayed on well to the line over 10 furlongs on his handicap debut. While he's yet to show the same level of form on turf as he has on sand, there's nothing in his pedigree to suggest he shouldn't be fine on grass so I think he deserves another chance to show he can cope and get the job done for his new yard.

The worthy favourite is the in form Rae Guest charge Rosa Gold, after winning three on the bounce, she's clearly enjoying life at the minute but she goes up in trip and weight today and that might just be enough to allow Prince Imperial to get to her in the later stages.

It's time for Fleeting Prince to get his head in front

I fancy another three-year-old colt and Prince to go well today at Chelmsford, Charlie Hills' runner Fleeting Prince wasn't beaten far on the all-weather in a Group 3 in June and he's been knocking on the door in competitive turf handicaps over this trip of late. Back on the all-weather this sharper track and seven furlongs should allow him to maintain his effort a touch longer. Which would be all he would need he was beaten less than a length last time out off this mark and a run similar to that would see him ahead of these today.

Cry Havoc is the obvious one to beat in this, with form figures of 2112 and all those starts coming on the all weather she has to come into the mix but both those wins were over six furlongs and she is running from outside the handicap today. Rae Guest's three-year-old filly is still very lightly raced and of course she could progress again and win this in a cantor but she does have a few questions to answer to day and I think she will have to run to her best to beat Fleeting Prince.
