Alan has two selections today, John Gosden looks to have a nice filly at Nottingham and he has another at Newcastle...
"both trainer and jockey, Robert Havlin, are in excellent form, I am expecting a big run today"
Jane Marple can take the mystery out of this
This John Gosden trained filly took a big step forward when opening her account at the second attempt over a mile and half at Newmarket in June. The Nathaniel three-year-old is a half sister to Precious Ramotswe, who was a Group 3 winner at this distance. The family who do well on soft ground, she should appreciate these conditions and the step up in trip. An opening mark of 82 could look very lenient after this handicap debut and with both trainer and jockey, Robert Havlin, are in excellent form, I am expecting a big run today.
Simon & Ed Crisford team are also bang in form and with Andrea Atzeni on board their hat-trick seeking filly, Myseven has to be taken seriously. She ran a cracking race when making a winning handicap debut at Kempton and this step up in trip could well unlock further improvement. However, this looks tougher, she has a 6lb increase to contend with and the ground has to be a concern. I am happy to take her on at the prices.
Cmon Cmon can make it back-to-back on the Tapeta
This Newcastle Tapeta surface could be exactly what Cmon Cmon needs, he certainly won well enough last time out, coming down the middle of the track to go past them in the final stages and he was running on at the end of this tough seven. Granted he is 3lbs higher for that win but that doesn't look to harsh on the bare face of things given he was comfortably on top at the line. Onboard again is Faye McManoman who is still claiming her very useful 5lbs.
Behind Cmon Cmon on his penultimate start was Stella Barclay's Deolali, who is a regular at Newcastle. This is his 10th start at Gosfroth Park but has only been successful on one previous occasion. While that was over today's course and distance, it was in an amateur riders race and since then he has always found at least one too good.
However, he was certainly a good second of 14 in a handicap over today's trip nine days ago and he is sure to be there or thereabouts at the business end of the race again today. But, I just think there is more improvement to come from Nigel Tinkler's Cmon Cmon and I think he's the one to get ahead of Deolail today.
