"I suspect there will be plenty more improvement to come from him and the five-year-old should have what it takes to win this race."
Alan got his week off to a good start with a winner at Wolverhampton. He has two more today from Exeter and Newcastle...
Es Perfecto has plenty more to offer
Back Es Perfecto @ 4/1 in the 12:55 Exeter
The Alan King trained Es Perfecto made a winning start to hurdles at the first attempt at Warwick four weeks ago, after a 237 day break. The third home that day has since come out and won, franking the form.
He hasn't got many miles on the clock, this being just his third start for the King team. Fitness and stamina won't be a problem today, with a recent run and winning form over further than this in his pointing days. I suspect there will be plenty more improvement to come from him and the five-year-old should have what it takes to win this race.
If he is to win this then he will have to get the better of Ask A Honey Bee, this triple bumper winner trained by Fergal O'Brien also made the perfect start to his hurdling career when winning at Wetherby. Prior to that, he ran in the Champion Bumper at the festival and although he finished well down the field that day, this is considerably easier. I don't think there is much between the two except one is 7/4 and the other is 4/1; at the prices I just prefer Es Perfecto.
Drop in trip may just be enough for Fighter Pilot
Back Fighter Pilot @ 5/2 in the 18:15 Newcastle
This is the first time that Fighter Pilot has been tried over the minimum trip after finishing third on his previous two attempts over six furlongs.
The first of those efforts was here at Newcastle, where he faded a little in the final furlong on his racecourse debut. But the form of the colts second start at Nottingham is working out very well with a couple of subsequent winners in behind. He was well backed and sent off favourite on that occasion so there was obviously confidence behind him and he can make amends in the hands of William Buick, as he steps into Nursery company for the first time.
An interesting runner in the field and one that could easily fill a place is the current outsider of the seven runners (currently 10/1 in the market), Macho Pride, who will appreciate being lowered in grade having been highly tried since his course and distance victory on debut in June. That win was his one and only run on the all weather, so it could be a surface he is far more suited to and he could run well again at a double figure price.
