Timeform's Adam Houghton highlights a Nap, Next Best and Each-Way selection at Newmarket on Wednesday...

  • A Newmarket NAP, Next Best and Each-Way from Timeform

Newmarket NAP - 14:25 - Back Point Sur

Point Sur made a promising start to his career when finishing fourth over this course and distance a couple of weeks ago, passing the post just half a length behind the winner and looking unlucky not to go very close having been short of room near the finish.

That form sets the standard here on Timeform's weight-adjusted figures and the small 'p' attached to his rating denotes that he is likely to improve with the experience under his belt.

A whole host of interesting newcomers feature among the opposition in this novice event, but Point Sur rates a very solid selection to get off the mark at the second attempt for Charlie Appleby, who is seeking a third success in the race since 2017.

Newmarket Next Best - 16:10 - Back Karmology

Karmology defied a penalty with a dominant front-running success at Newcastle earlier this month, responding generously to pressure and still notably strong at the line.

That was a fairly useful performance to win by two and three-quarter lengths and she remains with potential after just two starts.

Trained by Karl Burke, who has his team in good order (four winners from his last nine runners), Karmology is unlikely to give up her unbeaten record without a fight now making the switch to handicaps from what looks a generous opening mark.

Newmarket Each-Way - 17:20 - Back Mafnood

Mafnood failed to meet market expectations when finishing only fourth (beaten six lengths) at Kempton last time, but it's far too soon to be writing him off after one bad run.

He is only 1 lb higher in the weights than when filling the runner-up spot on his previous start at Doncaster, beaten just three quarters of a length, and the return to softer ground on turf could be the catalyst for a quick bounce back to form.
