James Tate's Top Rank produced a career best last time in a hot handicap at York, and he looks a good price at 8.07/1 to take the step up to Group 3 level.

There was a lot to like about his run at the Ebor meeting when just touched off by two very classy horses in Montatham and Sir Busker - who look both Group-class.

Top Rank didn't have the ideal position in the York race with the jockey unable to slot him in, but I like the way he made up ground in the early part of the straight, and he had a good crack at the winner too.

Rated 106, he has a bit to find on form with the likes of the more experienced Stormy Antarctic, but he's very much on the up and is worth taking a chance on with an attractive price at around 8.07/1.

Spanish to finally come good with a win at Ascot

I've been to the well a few times with Spanish City, but with drying conditions at Ascot for Saturday, I am hoping he can gain a win at the track he so deserves

He's a deceptive horse; he gives the impression he wants 7f when running over 6f, but when he goes sprinting, he often shapes like he wants 7f with the way he finishes.

We know he handles Ascot well and is often seen in plenty of big handicaps around here. Indeed, his standout run this season came in the Wokingham over course and distance when finishing third.

I am not too worried about the mark of 98 as he holds him form well, whilst the addition of Ray Dawson and his 5lb claim is a big plus. Dawson has revived his career by forging new links with some of the big Newmarket yards, and he can cement the relationship with Roger Varian here.
