Alan Dudman likes the look of two horses in novice events at Kempton on Tuesday...
"The yard have sent out four winners and five placed runners from their last 13, and the grey filly can add to that tally on Tuesday."
Mutalahef can kick-start a good evening for leading owner
19:30 Kempton - Back Mutalahef @ 5.04/1
Both bets on Tuesday are running in novice events for the evening, and we kick off with a selection in the 19:30 with Marcus Tregoning's Mutalahef - the first of two that will be sporting the blue and white silks of owner Hamdan Al Maktoum.
There was plenty to like about a good debut run at Lingfield last December over 7f. He showed his inexperience by missing the kick from the gate, but he stayed on nicely down the straight to finish second (and just over four lengths) to Corvair in a good time comparable to the handicaps on the card. Corvair put his know-how to good use with first run on the field by making all, and he's now rated 94.
The draw is a slight worry but we have to take these things on the chin but the price of 4/1 initially on the Sportsbook looks more interesting than the two shorter figures of both Endured and Lexington Force.
Mutalahef also steps up in distance to 1m from 7f tonight, and this should benefit the pick. The more galloping nature of Kempton will also suit.
Filly to improve for an in-form yard
20:00 Kempton - Back Alqifaar @ 8.07/1
I've often highlighted backing an Owen Burrows' horse on their second career start as an angle, and I am keen to explore this on Tuesday night at Kempton with the yard's Alqifaar.
She made her debut last August at the track over 7f and showed enough in a slightly green performance to suggest she can improve on that. Her price was 16/1 that day, but Burrows' horses are never totally revved up for their first appearance.
On pedigree, she should enjoy racing on the Kempton surface again, as her dam was an all-weather winner, and Ghanaati is a relation too - and she famously won at the track first up.
The yard have sent out four winners and five placed runners from their last 13, and the grey filly can add to that tally on Tuesday. A price of 6/1 on the Sportsbook is more than fair considering we are backing the improvement from first to second run.
