Drop back to five furlongs to suit
Dundalk 13:30: Mna Na Mhi 1pt win 15/2
Mna Na Mhi finished behind Hypernova last month but I think she has a good chance of reversing that form today racing over five furlongs for the first time.
She put in a very good performance on debut over six furlongs at this track when she was slowly away and detached off the back of the field early on. She was still in last turning into the home straight before quickening well with just over a furlong to go to move into a position to challenge. She raced a bit greenly when switched to the outside but finished strongly and was only beaten a neck by the 85-rated Brostaigh.
Her two runs since have been below that level but there have been clear excuses for that. On the first of them when finishing behind Hypernova, she was drawn very wide and she raced awkwardly and keenly out wide on the bend.
Last time out, she was bafflingly stepped up to seven furlongs and unsurprisingly raced very keenly under restraint towards the back of the field. She made some headway on the outside in the home straight but that effort flattened out with a furlong to go and she finished sixth.
It's clear from her debut that Mna Na Mhi has plenty of speed and I think the drop back to five furlongs will be far more suitable for her than the seven furlongs she raced over last time. She is also likely to have a good pace to track with Hypernova, Tastyee and Sur La Lune likely wanting to lead early on.
Being drawn widest of the seven runners isn't ideal and it might be that we will see the best of her on a straight track on turf later this year as she didn't look comfortable going around a bend two starts ago but I think she should be closer to the front pair in the market and any 13/2 or bigger appeals.
