Can improve on second start after long break

Redcar 17:20: Contrast 1pt win 14/1

Contrast was well beaten last time at Beverley but I think he could be capable of running far better today off a 2lb lower mark.

That race was over 1m½f and he was slowly away and then slightly hampered which resulted in him racing in last early on. He was still in that position and a couple of lengths off the back of the field entering the home straight before staying on without ever getting anywhere near the leaders to finish ninth.

That was always likely to be an inadequate test of stamina for Contrast and his task was made even tougher at the start. He was also returning from a 427-day break and he wasn't given an overly hard time in the closing stages once it was clear that he had no chance.

Prior to that very long absence, Contrast had won comfortably over 1m2f off a 1lb higher mark than he races off today and then found a small field not to his liking at Nottingham.

The return to 1m2f and potential for a good pace with a few that like to lead or race very prominently in the field could see him bounce back and this isn't an overly strong race.

It may be that he's just not as good as he was or that he will need blinkers back on to return to form but I think that despite him shortening a little in the market this morning, he's still just about overpriced and any 14/1 or bigger appeals.
