Rhys Williams has analysed Wednesday's racing and has a sole selection at a huge price at Newton Abbot.
Showed some promise in Irish points
Newton Abbot 13:00: Global Mystery 0.5pt win 100/1
The opening maiden hurdle at Newton Abbot is a very weak race. Gaulois and Jean Genie dominate the market but neither are particularly appealing despite the quality of the opposition. Gaulois looked fairly promising in his first few runs but he's weakened worryingly quickly on his last two starts while Jean Genie will find this easier than facing Sporting Ace last time but he just looks to lack any turn of foot.
The other three that have run over hurdles haven't shown much so I'm taking a shot with the complete outsider of the field who makes his rules debut after running in four Irish points. Global Mystery made his debut at Moira in October and he showed some ability, staying in touch with the leaders until not finding much under pressure after 2 out and dropping away quickly.
He raced very prominently for a long way next time before fading quickly leaving the back straight and being pulled up and showed some ability again on his third start at Lingstown. He travelled strongly going down the back straight for the final time and made a big move to go to the front approaching 2 out but he had little left after jumping it and was soon left behind by Superstylin.
Global Mystery ran poorly on his only start since at Oldcastle but the ground was very testing that day. There is a concern that the rain this morning could turn the ground against him as I think he wants good ground but the way he travelled in a few of those races suggests that he has ability and the shorter trip and potential test of speed if they go steady is likely to suit him.
It might be that he has a wind problem given how quickly he's stopped to nothing and he's only joined this yard very recently so may need more time to adjust to a new routine but he shouldn't be 100/1 in a race of this quality given the ability he's shown. Any 40/1 or bigger appeals.
