Step up in trip likely to suit

Yarmouth 14:50: Made Of Gold 1.5pt win 7/2

Made Of Gold has shown promise on both starts so far and looks likely to be suited by the step up in trip this afternoon.

He made his debut over a mile at Windsor and ran well despite showing clear signs of inexperience. He was a bit awkwardly away and shifted out to the left before racing towards the back of the field. He raced greenly going around the bend and had to be shaken along and continued to be nudged along after.

He came under stronger pressure and was switched to the wide outside 2½ furlongs out and he stayed on well, despite edging slightly left at times, to finish fifth.

Based on that run it seemed a strange choice to drop him back to seven furlongs for his second start at Newmarket. He raced in second from an early stage before being outpaced two furlongs out as the pace lifted. He dropped back into third and was left behind by the front pair but rallied late on and was beaten 3¼ lengths in third.

I think he was up against two stronger fields in those starts than he faces today and the step up to 1m2f looks likely to bring improvement.

There is a slight concern that he's edged left under pressure on both starts but I think he's arguably shown the best form in the race and his price is a result of his low profile connections. Any 11/4 or bigger appeals.
