Alan is giving another chance to Hasty Sailor in the Wednesday night Kempton feature

"He did stay on, though, under perhaps not the strongest of rides, so he is well worth another chance off an unchanged mark of 93."

It's Kempton for Alan Dudman on Wednesday night following a Ballinrobe winner yesterday, and he is looking forward to seeing the progressive Hasty Sailor in today's double...

Lily to have her rivals in palm of her hand

Sole Pretender was a winner for yesterday's column and drifted out to a decent 7/4 considering I thought he'd go odds-on from evens. He was a pleasure to watch on his chase debut with a smashing performance to win by 12L. Lariat couldn't do the same as the double dreams were dashed.

With the weather forecast up and down at the moment, my first choice would usually be Ripon, but with a wet couple of days at the start of the week and a possible dry one on Wednesday, I cannot for sure be guaranteed of the surface, so it's best to stick with a couple of all-weather punts.

So for today's double I am going with a Ralph Beckett newcomer in the opener who looks a 2yo on paper.

Lily Palmer is out of mare Lady Livius, a dam who has produced a couple of smart 6f horses in Burnt Sugar and Brown Sugar. Both were winners as juveniles, as was Lady Livius. Indeed, all three scored on the all-weather with the "Sugars" holding winning form at Kempton.

It's early days with first-season sire Expert Eye, but he has produced two debutante winners - one for Lily Palm's trainer Beckett called Sunny Orange.

Beckett is three from eight at Kempton this term at nearly 38%, and the selection is drawn on the inside in two - which helps.

One for the old master in Kempton feature

We stick with the all-weather for the second selection as the forecast is too changeable and we saw that at Leicester yesterday with the going altered after a couple of races, and the old master Sir Michael Stoute should have a winner with Hasty Sailor.

I put up "the Sailor" for the Rosebery at the track in April for the column , and the fact he's in an easier race with a more suitable trip makes him the bet.

Stoute is still reminding everyone with his jovial/taciturn style that he can still do the job, just like the great Colin Cowdrey when he was dusted off in one of the Ashes Series aged 41 to face Lillee and Thompson - to use cricketing parlance for the Barbados native's love of the game.

I once faced Barbados opening bowler Tennyson Roach in a tour match, who had reportedly claimed the wicket of Steve Waugh a few years earlier. Needless to say he got me early, and was one of the quickest I had faced - although rather galling to see him described as "fast medium". Hopefully Hasty Sailor can run as quick.

His third in the Rosebery was a sound effort considering the slow early pace, and he looked as though he was a bit chopped for speed as the cutaway loomed as a few horses went past him. He did stay on, though, under perhaps not the strongest of rides, so he is well worth another chance off an unchanged mark of 93.

The 5yo looks a typical late bloomer for Stoute, and he is still progressive considering his sharp win at Wolverhampton previously in a race where they clocked a good even pace. His sectionals backed that up with a finishing speed of nearly 104%.
