Aintree, 13:45 - Back Wellington Arch each-way @ 17/29.50

The lightly-raced Indeevar Bleu could be a tough opponent to repel in this opener given he has track form, is fresh and arrives on the back of a wind proceedure which may also serve to produce further improvement.

A smooth winner off a mark of 129 over course and distance on Boxing Day, the eight-year-old now resides on 138, but with just a stone separating top weight from bottom, this race looks more a case of finding the best horse in the conditions rather than the handicap blot.

There is a chance French recruit Emid'io Pepe also fits that criteria as the Skelton operation run him here on his UK debut rather than the nicely treated Glance At Midnight, but in the hope the tried and tested warriors again come to the fore, Wellington Arch and Favour And Fortune are the two picks in a typically competitive renewal.

The former won this race last year with a little in hand, albeit he was closed down late in the day by Kopeck De Mee, but the damage had been done by that point.

Admittedly, he is a stone higher 12 months on, but his performances have registered an upward curve so that is understandable and he looked in good form when cosily landing a Uttoxeter handicap (which he was beaten in the previous year) at the end of Cheltenham week last month.

A fine fifth for Monbeg Genius in the Irish National on Easter Monday and wins for the likes of Largy Go in the last week confirm that the Jonjo & A J O'Neill partnership are finishing the season stronger than they started it.

Aintree, 13.45 - Back Favour And Fortune each-way @ [S/P]

I was present at Kempton the day that Favour And Fortune made his return from a 323-day absence and he shaped with plenty of promise in the race won by Hold The Serve.

The handicapper saw fit to drop the selection a couple of pounds to 140 for the effort which saw him beaten by 22 lengths, but that finishing position arguably didn't tell the whole story.

Surprisingly strong in the market given he looked like the outing would do him good, Favour And Fortune travelled sweetly to the home turn on the final circuit from which point he blew up and was allowed to finish in his own time.

Hopefully, that run wil put him spot on for this and, given he was a commendable third in last year's renewal and his record on flat left-handed tracks reads 1112143, then he ought to be involved in the shake-up once more.

Aintree, 16.05 - Back Boombawn each-way @ 14/115.00

Dan Skelton boasts a strong hand in this enthralling renewal with Cheltenham handicap blot/plot Madara bidding to follow up his Prestbury Park romp off 10lb higher, while Boombawn provides an intriguing second string with Tristan Durrell on board.

In polite terms, the latter hasn't been at the races for much of the season, albeit the layers did see fit to make him an 11/43.75 chance for his Aintree return when a commendable fourth in the Grade 2 Old Roan Chase back in October.

That was an event held at the scene of the selection's best career effort when last April he chased home Impaire Et Passe, Gidleigh Park and Jango Baie in a feisty renewal of the Grade 1 Manifesto.

The Dylan Thomas gelding was only beaten three-and-a-half lengths that day after travelling well for the majority of the contest and the three rivals which finished in front were rated 157, 153 and 159 respectively which endorsed what a fine effort it was given his mark stood at 145.

Jango Baie has subsequently run well in a King George and been placed in a Gold Cup, while two-time Aintree scorer Impaire Et Passe tackled the Bowl on the opening day which illustrates the exalted company Boombawn was keeping.

Like many Skelton handicappers which need assistance from the assessor, Boombawn hasn't truly been sighted in six starts this term and his trainer was suggesting in a recent interview that he still remains too high in the handicap to figure in a race of this nature.

That may well be the case, but the nine-year-old's form figures when he returns to the track between four and five weeks read encouragingly (10113) with the sole unplaced effort sustained over three miles at Kempton earlier this season when he was being tuned up for the spring.

Durrell and Boombawn enjoyed a 'getting to know you' exercise behind Madara at Cheltenham when beaten 17 lengths and, with the gelding's mark now standing at 146, a return to a flat track and good ground could ensure the gap between the two stablemates narrows here.

Back Wendigo (14.20 Aintree) and Dalston Lad (16.40 Aintree) in an each-way double

Betfair is offering Bet £10 Get £10 on Racing Multis each day of the Aintree Grand National Festival, and the multi that makes the most appeal on Friday is an each-way double comprising Wendigo and Dalston Lad.

A flatter track might suit Wendigo who is taken to bounce back from his unfortunate fall in the Brown Advisory at Cheltenham, while the decision to save course winner Dalston Lad for an intriguing renewal of the Sefton could also pay off.
