William Hill Handicap Hurdle, 13:20, Aintree - Back Get On George EW six places @ 16/117.00

Sue Smith and Joel Parkinson will be our torchbearers for northern racing on Grand National day and, with the Betfair Sportsbook offering six places for each-way bets, I wanted something at a double-figure price. That's where Get On George comes into this.

He finished second at Sandown on Imperial Cup Saturday in the Betfair "National Hunt" Novices' Handicap Hurdle Final and that was very much a return to form after flopping in the Grade 2 River Don.

The ground was extremely testing and, as ever at Sandown, more so on the hurdles' track, and while the winner went smoothly through the race, Get On George looked a horse with a fair bit of stamina in behind.

Get On George won his novice at Doncaster over 2m4f in December on good ground and again gave the impression he'll stay a lot further as he won with a fair bit in hand. His final furlong clocked way quicker than the second at 14.67 compared to 15.37, while the third was timed at 16.33.

Stamina looks his strong suit and a rise of 4lb to 132, with his unexposed profile, makes him more than interesting with the amount of places on offer.

Turners Mersey Novices' Hurdle, 13:55, Aintree - Back Montemares EW four places @ 6/17.00

The Mersey went to my all-time favourite jumper Tidal Bay back in 2007 and the introduction of the youth upsurges here could give us a future Stayers' Hurdle horse. Honours in this Aintree race could mean rapid advancement into that Cheltenham arena.

Could Montemares be it? Well he was very impressive in the Grade 2 Premier Novices' Hurdle at Kelso in February.

Tom Lacey was beaming afterwards and had targeted the race after his effort in the Challow at Newbury behind No Drama This End. The trainer said of Cheltenham "absolutely not".

Having the 42 days off will help and I can see Aintree suiting his run style.

William Hill Handicap Chase (Registered As The Freebooter Handicap Chase), 14:30, Aintree - Back Konfusion EW six places @ 16/117.00

Konfusion was an antepost selection in my Tuesday column earlier this week and, while he was towards the head of the weights from a mark of 145, I give him another chance after his Cheltenham fall at the Festival.

He tipped up at the 13th in the Ultima, and while capable of one or two eyecatching jumps, he does put in the odd less than fluent one here and there.

Two nice prizes for Konfusion have already been collected with the Wetherby Rowland Meyrick and the Newcastle Rehearsal, so we know he stays a trip and Gavin Sheehan riding for Smith is always a positive due to his association with O'Connell.

Key to his chances could be an ability to dominate and get out nice and early.

Jet2 Liverpool Hurdle, 15:05, Aintree - Back Jingko Blue EW five places @ 11/26.50

The low horizons of the staying division means anyone has a chance these days over hurdles and 3m and Jingko Blue was about as convincing as any horse can be when winning at the Cheltenham Festival.

In fact, it was one of the handicap performances of the meeting as he blitzed his rivals by over 6L to win the Bet MGM Cup (Coral Cup in old money). Considering he finished second to Kabral Du Mathan at Cheltenham earlier in the season, you have to earmark him as a stayer in a rank division.

He made the running as he's quite a keen and enthusiastic runner. That electric fan-like speed can get him into an early position and, considering he was smart over fences and competed at a high level, modelling him into a staying hurdler looks a good move from wise old owl Nicky Henderson.
