Our resident tipster has analysed Friday's racing and has two selections at Market Rasen...

  • Encouraging handicap debut

  • Switch to right-handed track to suit

  • One Man Party is overpriced at Market Rasen

Can build on handicap debut

Market Rasen 13:40: One Man Party 1pt win 4/1

One Man Party showed very little in three starts in novice/maiden hurdles but he was in the process of showing far more on handicap debut at Plumpton when falling last time and I think he can build on that today in a weak contest.

He was ridden handily in behind the leaders at Plumpton and raced a shade keenly. On the run down the hill after jumping 4 out, he looked to be hanging right and he lost his place slightly but was still in touch when he lunged at 3 out and came down.

The way he was travelling at the time suggests that One Man Party would likely have been competitive in the finish had he stood up and I think that was a stronger race than the one he's in today.

Given that he looked to be hanging right at Plumpton, the switch to a right-handed track today should suit and I'm hoping they look to repeat the prominent tactics now down in trip.

There is a chance that he's just an awkward ride so his ability may never transfer to results but there are very few positives to take from any of his rivals today and any 7/2 or bigger appeals.

Switch to right-handed track may suit

Market Rasen 14:15: Endlesspossibility 0.5pt win 50/1

I can't let Endlesspossibility go unbacked in this maiden hurdle at a big price given that he has the ability to be competitive if he allows himself to show it.

He made a fairly promising start to his career when finishing fourth in an Irish point but there was no encouragement to take from his first two starts under rules at Wetherby and Southwell and he raced very keenly under restraint on that hurdling debut at Southwell.

I thought he showed a bit more promise last time at the same track despite ending up being well beaten. He was held up in last early on and after initially appearing to race keenly, he briefly had to be shaken along after the second hurdle. He frequently jumped out to the right to varying degrees and was still at the back of the main group turning down the back straight before making some headway to go into sixth turning the final bend. From that point, he wasn't asked for much as he didn't pick up and dropped away to finish eighth.

I'm hoping the switch to a right-handed track will bring some improvement from Endlesspossibility given how he jumped last time and the ground may not be quite as testing today as it was at Southwell which will help his chance too. They may also not have him quite as far back in this smaller field which could also lead to a better performance.

It may be that he's just very tricky and needs more time to mentally develop before he can show his full ability in handicaps but given how weak this race is, I think he's a bit overpriced and any 28/1 or bigger appeals.
