Rhys Williams has analysed Tuesday's racing and has a big-priced fancy at Killarney.
"She looks outpaced over the two sprint trips this season and her good run for Joseph O’Brien came over a mile."
Return to longer trip to suit
Pinpointed heads the market for division two of the mile handicap at Killarney this evening after winning fairly comfortably last time. Prior to that, she finished a close second at Leopardstown in a race where Sweet November was stuck for room on the inside. That rival reopposes tonight and is interesting on her second start for John McConnell although I'm not sure there's any edge in the price as the market certainly hasn't missed the eyecatching nature of that run and the ground tonight may be softer than ideal for her.
At a much bigger price, I think Jazz And Blues could run better than the market is expecting. She started her career with Joseph O'Brien and finished third in a maiden at the Curragh on her second run.
She was off the track for 335 days after that and was bought in the interim by James Barcoe for €3,000. She showed pretty much nothing on three starts for him last year in a maiden and two handicaps but has offered more promise in her two starts this season.
She was dropped back to five furlongs at Tipperary on the first of them and was beaten 5¾ lengths under Joey Sheridan who is in the saddle tonight. She was a bit awkwardly away from the stalls and raced at the back of the far side group. She was starting to make some headway just over two furlongs out when not getting a clear run. She had no chance of winning after that but stayed on late without being given a hard time.
Jazz And Blues was stepped up to six furlongs for her latest start at the Curragh. She was nudged along at the back of the field early on towards the stand side and was angled to the near rail with three furlongs to go. Her path was initially blocked when looking to make headway and after that she was only ridden hands and heels and plugged on into seventh.
She now races off a 4lb lower mark than she did that day and Joey Sheridan is back on having not been in the saddle at the Curragh, which is a positive for her chance. She looked to be wanting to edge left under pressure on her last run so the left-handed track will suit and she now steps up to what is likely to be a more suitable distance for her. She looks outpaced over the two sprint trips this season and her good run for Joseph O'Brien came over a mile.
She ran well enough over an unsuitable trip on this ground last time so hopefully the ground won't be an issue although the forecast additional rain is a slight concern as I don't think she wants it too soft.
It may be that the likes of Pinpointed and Sweet November are a little too well handicapped for her, but I think there's been enough promise in her two starts this season to suggest Jazz And Blues is capable of running well off 50 and any 14/1 or bigger appeals.
