Rhys Williams has analysed Thursday's racing and has one selection at Haydock.
"Dapper Man is now back down a mark only 1lb higher than when winning under today's rider at Ripon earlier this season and the blinkers are back on."
Reapplied blinkers can spark return to form
Dapper Man has been a bit disappointing on his last two starts but he's had excuses on both and he has a good chance to bounce back today.
When finishing fourth at Ripon two starts ago, he was racing without blinkers and he was up against the very speedy Harrogate who headed him early on. A combination of those two factors caused Dapper Man to underperform in finishing fourth.
He was well beaten last time at Pontefract, once again racing without blinkers. He showed good speed to lead but his jockey kept him wide on the bend and he looked to be hanging right a little. He subsequently dropped right away in the straight.
Dapper Man is now back down a mark only 1lb higher than when winning under today's rider at Ripon earlier this season and the blinkers are back on. He may also not face too much pressure for the lead and he's drawn nearest to the stands side rail.
The seven-year-old has shown a tendency to edge to his right under pressure so that gives Saffie Osborne the choice of bringing him nearer to the rail to help combat that concern if she wishes.
It's also a positive for his chance that Osborne is in the saddle in an apprentice race.
There is a chance that his younger rivals might be open to more improvement and have too much in hand for him even if he does return to form but I think these circumstances give Dapper Man a good chance of returning back to winning ways and any 4/1 or bigger appeals.
