Alan Dudman is off to Chelmsford on Thursday evening, and he likes the look of Khaalis on handicap debut...
Headgear can sharpen up Appleby youngster
17:25 Chelmsford - Back Symbolic Power @ 3.1511/5
When a horse costs so much money, it tends to be the first thing anyone mentions. And there have been plenty of flops at big prices.
So I'm fairly sure the price tag of Symbolic Power will be trotted out at some point, as he cost a cool 2.3million guineas.
That's not the reason he is the bet, the angle of his trainer Charlie Appleby going for the headgear most definitely is, because the cheekpieces will be applied for the first time, and Appleby is a good user of the accoutrement.
His debut at Sandown wasn't without hope, as he was slow to go and very green. He wasn't in love with the quick ground either, and Sandown can be a difficult track from a wide draw for a debut outing.
Incidentally, the race he ran in last time was won by Too Darn Hot in 2018.
Handicap debut for Khaalis could be a good one
19:00 Chelmsford - Back Khaalis @ 6.05/1
Khaalis got off the mark in a Chelmsford novice last time out, and he looks the horse with the most amount of potential for this 1m handicap.
The selection's mark is 80, and that could turn out to be lenient judged on the way he scored at the track last time. He went away by four lengths to seal the victory, having tracked the pace throughout and just shaken up with 3f to go.
It was a big improvement on his debut and that's not a surprise for an Owen Burrows-trained horse, as they tend to need their first run.
As one of a batch of three-year-olds in the line-up with the imposing looks to match, he has taken to the surface well and can pick up another victory at a decent price of 6.05/1
