Alan Dudman takes over from Alan Thompson for the next week and he is hoping to kick-start his spell with success at Wolverhampton on Monday...
"He looks the type to need a good tow into the race and he can take a handy position from his draw in four."
The Fiddler can run into a place from low mark
18:30 Wolverhampton - Back The Fiddler in the Place market @ 3/14.0
There might be a few groans with me putting up this Wolverhampton selection again, and it was fairly close with The Fiddler and Lampang (who runs in the 14:00 at Musselburgh), but the former deserves one more chance.
The Fiddler has been disappointing this term, and he hasn't built on his reappearance. He certainly hasn't kicked on following his two Redcar victories in 2019 from marks in the 50s, but the looked a better horse than those lowly numbers.
He's down to his lowest mark of the season on 55 and he's worth a go on the all-weather considering he is a fast ground horse - and he certainly won't get that with the weather forecast at the moment.
Today's 1m6f trip is his best distance, and a speedy track like Wolverhampton could suit him. I'll be backing in the Place market at around 3/14.0, which looks a bit too big if he can recapture some of that Redcar form.
Candy's Castle can crush his rivals to score again
20:00 Wolverhampton - Back Maiden Castle @ 11/26.6
Maiden Castle got his head in front last time at Wolverhampton, and I am backing him again to follow up from a 4lb higher mark on Monday in what looks an open handicap.
This horse was lumbered with a puzzling rating of 88 following three novice runs, but he managed to take advantage of a more realistic perch of 74 when scoring nicely at the track. It was a messy race, but he was running on strongly to the line once he eventually got out from the inside and a 4lb rise might not stop him here. His quick, extravagant action worked well on the Dunstall Park surface.
He looks the type to need a good tow into the race and he can take a handy position from his draw in four.
His trainer Henry Candy has only had 10 winners all season, but he fired in a Listed success at the weekend at Newmarket and Maiden Castle can provide a bit more cheer for the yard. And me.
