RBC Heritage First-Round Leader Tips: Picks from 28/1 to 66/1

Canadian golfer Adam Svensson
Adam Svensson can go low in round one

The PGA Tour heads to Hilton Head Island and Dave Tindall has three each-way bets to top the leaderboard come the end of round one in South Carolina...

  • 66/167.00 Adam Svensson keeps making fast starts

  • 66/167.00 Austin Eckroat has a great R1 record on bermuda

  • 28/129.00 Cameron Young is a former Thursday leader here

Weather forecast for Thursday

After the blustery conditions at Augusta, it's pretty calm on day one at Hilton Head Island, especially in the morning when winds will be around 5mph. They could rise to 10mph and above in the afternoon.

Temperatures start off around 70 degrees and gradually climb to a peak of 80 around 2pm.

With just 69 players in the field, everyone goes off from the 1st. Tee-times (two-balls) run from 8.15am to 2.10pm. Overall, the early groups look set to get the best conditions.

Back Adam Svensson @ 66/167.00

Adam Svensson is in the fourth group out at 8.45am local and that looks a good opportunity for the Canadian to continue his recent run of quick starts.

Svensson opened with 66s at both the Valspar Championship and the Houston Open and set out with a 69 in Texas last time.

Those low numbers were good enough for first-round leader positions of third, sixth and eighth respectively.

Also eighth after day one at TPC Scottsdale, Svensson has some FRL history here too after shooting a 66 in his opening lap in 2022.

That put him in third place when round one was in the books.

A former winner of the RSM Classic at Sea Island where he carded a 62 on day three, this similar test should suit.

Back Austin Eckroat @ 66/167.00

Austin Eckroat has been a good man to follow in this market over the last five or six months.

He was the first-round leader at Sea Island in November and started his season with a 65 at the Sony Open to sit third on the R1 leaderboard.

The 25-year-old was third after day one of the Cognizant Classic, a tournament he went on to win to secure a first PGA Tour title, and two starts ago he ended Thursday's play at the Texas Open in fourth.

The observant will realise that all four tournaments named above were played on bermuda grass and those are the surfaces he'll encounter here.

This is his first look at Harbour Town but he's a quick learner, the course should suit and in the two Korn Ferry events he played previously in South Carolina, Eckroat finished seventh and 26th, opening with rounds of 66 and 67.

He heads out early at 8.25am.

Back Cameron Young @ 28/129.00

In a field of just 69, the threat of random outsiders getting involved on the first-round leaderboard diminishes so I don't mind playing one fairly near the front of the betting.

And the best candidate looks to be Cameron Young, the 8.55am starter is available at 28/129.00.

Young is in excellent form with a ninth at The Masters following on from a second place in the Valspar Championship. Those two finishes have given him five top 10s in nine starts this year.

The American started 2024 by taking the first-round lead at the Dubai Desert Classic, was third after day one at the Cognizant Classic and was also in the top 10 on the R1 leaderboard at Augusta and TPC Scottsdale.

As for Harbour Town, Young was the first-round leader on debut two years ago after handing in a 63. He went on to finish third.

A strong performer by the coast, he can make an early move once more.
