The PGA Tour moves back to California this week and Dave Tindall brings three each-way tips for the action at glorious Pebble Beach...

Introduction to the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am

In terms of visuals, it doesn't get better than Pebble Beach and, good news, we will back here on the stunning Monterey Peninsula in California for the 2027 US Open.

This is the first of eight Signature events in 2026 and, although the pro-am element remains over the first three rounds, this is now an 80-man, no cut tournament.

Similar to the Farmers Insurance Open, there are two courses with the main one being used for both weekend rounds.

Here, that means three laps of beautiful Pebble Beach and those stunning ocean venues and one round at Spyglass Hill.

Both are short par 72s. Pebble measures in at just 6,989 yards, with Spyglass 7,071 yards. While both are covered in slowish poa annua greens, Pebble's putting surfaces are particularly tiny.

Down the years we've seen weather wreak havoc in this event. It's certainly a factor again with cool temperatures in the 50s all week and a final round set to feature both wind and rain.

Rory McIlroy was first for Strokes Gained: Off The Tee when winning last year but it's unusual for that stat to matter.

Approach and Putting have traditionally always been more important and that should be the case once more.

Bet 1: Russell Henley @ 30/131.00

There still seems to be a debate over just how good Russell Henley is but he isn't No.6 in the world rankings for nothing. And yet his position in the odds always suggest he's not as good as that.

In other words, he offers value and having cashed in on him at 40/141.00 when he won the Arnold Palmer Invitational last year - another Signature Event - I'll take him here at 30/131.00.

As a shorter hitter, two courses around 7,000 yards definitely aid his chances and having posted 16th here in the US Open way back in 2010, he produced his best finish in six AT&Ts when fifth last year. He was also 15th on his fourth start in the event.

Last year he really cashed in at Spyglass Hill with a 64 and should face similar, scoreable conditions this time. He later closed with a 5-under 67 at Pebble Beach.

Speaking about Pebble Beach that week, Henley revealed: "I've played the course a decent amount of times. Andy [Sanders], my caddie, has a lot of the experience out there and just try to lean on him. Just try to keep committing to our shots."

Perhaps the easiest way to sell Henley is that he very rarely has a bad event these days.

Winding back to May/June, he hasn't been outside the top 20 in 10 straight starts. That includes a pair of second places in which he shot a 61 in each (Travelers and Tour Championship).

He's added to that streak this year with 19th in the Sony Open and eighth at The American Express (another pro-am).

Finally, last year he ranked 13th for Approach and seventh Around The Green. That's a good recipe for success, as is ranking second for Approaches from inside 100 yards with wedge play so vital at Pebble Beach.

Bet 2: Sepp Straka @ 50/151.00

Pro-ams and their slow pace aren't for everyone but amiable and patient Sepp Straka certainly enjoys the vibe.

The Austrian, now a two-time Ryder Cup star, won The American Express last year and then came to Pebble Beach and finished seventh.

Straka finished 28th in the 2019 US Open at Pebble Beach and after returning to the course in 2024 with 26th, his top 10 in 2025 represented a nice progression.

While his defence of The Amex last month ended in a missed cut (let's blame rust as it was his first start of the season), Straka closed with rounds of 69-67-68 to finish 18th in last week's WM Phoenix Open.

He ranked eighth Tee To Green and seventh Around The Green which is encouraging.

An excellent wedge player - he ranked fourth for Approaches from 50-125 yards last season - Straka has four PGA Tour wins since the start of 2022. That includes a pair of victories in 2025.

A cool character who can also thrive in grotty weather, he rates a good bet here at 50s.

Bet 3: Akshay Bhatia @ 60/161.00

As a teenager making his tournament debut and playing just his 11th PGA Tour event, Akshay Bhatia hit all 18 greens in his opening round at Pebble Beach in 2021.

That's almost unheard of given how tiny these putting surfaces are and it helped him to a first-round 64.

He eventually finished 30th that week and after returning to the event last year, Bhatia fired scores of 69-69-72-68 to finish 22nd.

A California native, his first PGA Tour win came in his home state (2023 Barracuda Championship) while he added a second win (Texas Open) in 2024.

Bhatia got off to a rather sticky start in 2026 after missed cuts in The American Express and Farmers Insurance Open although he did manage three rounds out of five in the 60s across those two events.

But he took it up several notches in Phoenix last week with an opening 68 followed by three 67s to finish third, just a shot shy of the playoff number.

As for fellow lefties doing well here, Phil Mickelson was a five-time winner at Pebble and unheralded southpaw Ted Potter won at Pebble in 2018.

Back in 2021 when playing on an invite, Bhatia said: "I'm very delighted to be here. Pebble Beach is probably one of the best places I could ever be and, man, I'm very thankful for all the opportunities I've gotten along the way and this one's a little more special just because Pebble's really special to me."

Fast forward to last week and after finishing 6th for both Approach and Putting in Phoenix, the 24-year-old said: "Drove the ball good. Iron play was really on point. Made some really nice putts as well."

If he can carry that form over, Bhatia can make a big impression again.
