Introduction to the 3M Open
After a memorable fortnight in the UK, climaxed by Ryan Fox's dramatic win at the Open Championship, it's back to regular PGA Tour action this week.
The 3M Open is one of the Tour's newer offerings although with seven previous editions at TPC Twin Cities there's enough course form to tuck into.
The course which measures 7,431 yards is a par 71. It can yield some extremely low scores, with Adam Svensson (R1) and Kurt Kitayama (R3) both shooting 60 last year.
Kitayama added a 65 to win with 23-under although that was still short of Lee Hodges' record mark of 24-under in 2023.
Jhonattan Vegas (2024) and Tony Finau (2022) both won with 17-under so scoring isn't always ultra-wild.
This is the first of three events before the FedEx Cup playoffs start and, somewhat surprisingly, Scottie Scheffler is in the field.
Fourth at Royal Birkdale, Scheffler is just 21/103.10 to grab his first win since January's American Express in California.
Five of the seven winners at TPC Twin Cities ranked in the top four for SG: Approach while there's some great correlation between form here and at Detroit Golf Club, home of The Rocket Classic.
The purest link is provided by Tony Finau who won both events in back-to-back weeks in July 2022.
Strong driving is also a factor and Kenny Perry winning three of the final five editions of the Champions Tour's 3M Championship held here franks the idea that striping it with driver and irons counts for plenty.
William Mouw each-way @ 50/151.00
I landed the winner here last year as 33/134.00 tip Kurt Kitayama did the business.
Looking back at the 2025 preview, I wrote: "If looking for a player to tick the boxes of course form, current form and strong recent driving and iron play, Kurt Kitayama's name flashes brightly."
One other point regarding Kitayama was that he came into the event ranked 110th in the FedEX Cup standings so needed a late surge to make the playoffs.
William Mouw is perhaps the player with the most similar credentials to Kitayama in 2025.
Mouw is 102nd in the FedEx Cup table but he's starting to find some acceleration as the finishing line approaches.
The 25-year-old was 20th at the Canadian Open, 26th at the John Deere Classic and 10th at the ISCO Championship last time.
In his last two events, Mouw ranked 10th for Approach at the John Deere and 3rd in the ISCO Championship so he has the required sharp irons.
The clincher is a seventh place on his 3M Open debut last year via three rounds of 66 and a closing 67.
Mouw was defending at the ISCO having won that tournament last year with a closing 61 - the sort of ultra-low number that this course yields.
Hopefully he can win in July for the second year running.

Bet 2: Jackson Suber each-way @ 45/146.00
It's easy to shy away from players who took part in The Open, dismissing them too easily on the grounds of jet-lag, being tired etc.
This could apply to Jackson Suber but, let's flip it, and say this guy has just finished 28th in an Open Championship. He must be in a good place.
Suber made quite the impression at Royal Birkdale when leading after round one and sitting second at halfway.
And this despite it all being alien to him. He'd never played links golf and it was his first trip to Europe.
Back in his comfort zone but still with some strong Open memories flowing through him, Suber could be a big player this week.
While his Birkdale performance was a surprise in terms of it being on unfamiliar ground, it absolutely wasn't when checking his current form.
Taking out the US Open, in three of his last five regular Tour events, Suber has finished fourth at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, fourth at the Canadian Open and sixth in the John Deere Classic.
He had some eyecatching stats in those events and 20th for Approach this season shows how strong his iron play is.
Also 2nd Off Tee in Canada and 7th OTT at the John Deere, the only negative is course form.
Suber missed the cut on his only start last year but a first-round 67 was decent enough.
We can forgive him a poor Friday and sixth place in the correlating Rocket Classic last year is a source of encouragement.
His game looks a good fit for this and the 10-Place price is worth taking on the man who is 79th in the FedEx Cup standings so needs a good week somewhere.

Bet 3: Mac Meissner each-way @ 50/151.00
The third tip in my trio in the 10 Place market is Mac Meissner.
It's a very simple argument on a broad level: the 27-year-old has four top 10s in his last nine starts.
Those came at the Zurich Classic pairs event, the Myrtle Beach Classic, the Charles Schwab Challenge and the John Deere Classic two starts ago.
Despite that strong run, he's still right on the bubble of the playoffs in 70th place so motivation should be high.
Meissner was pushing for a top 20 finish on debut here after middle rounds of 69-67 before falling away but last year he fired 66-66-67-68 to post 14th.
Asked about his season so far during his third place at the Charles Schwab Challenge, Meissner said: "Yeah, it's been trending well since the Florida swing. I missed all three cuts I played in Florida, which was frustrating.
"I had a couple weeks off after that to do a little bit of swing work, which I wasn't happy with how I was swinging it early in the year.
"I have made a lot of progress with that, I like how I'm hitting the ball. I know what my misses are caused by, which is kind of the most important thing for a lot of us out here. Then the putting's been trending really well."
A latest thermometer check shows him ranking 2nd for SG: Putting at the John Deere and 13th for Approach.
The final cherry on the cake - he is also a bet for fellow Betfair golf tipster Steve Rawlings.
