Lahore and Quetta are both under pressure for wins. Lahore have three matches left and taking the points in each of them should see them make a late surge for the play-offs. Quetta have two left and are in must-win territory.
The two sides are in different form phases. Sort of. Lahore got a much-needed boost with a win over the hapless Rawalpindi. Quetta were well-beaten by runaway leaders Peshawar Zalmi. It's a question of how each team allows those matches to impact confidence.
Indeed, the Lahore win can be dismissed as irrelevant. It snapped a three-game losing streak and Pindiz have lost alll seven. Quetta may agrue that losing to the unbeaten Zalmi is no disgrace. The game before they handed Lahore a heavy beating after bowling them out for just 134.
The match odds market hasn't taken that into account. The 1.674/6 about Lahore is extremely short. Despite them being a pre-tournament fancy, they have been someting of a disaster in terms of professionalism. Betting them at such skinny numbers would make little sense.
Following the Karachi leg, the tournament now moves back to Lahore for the final group matches and the knockouts. It would be fair to reckon that runs should be in the offing again after the break. It was a good batting track earlier in the competition.
From the 13 matches, 180 or more was busted in first-innings in eight of them. Betting over 175.5 overs in the first dig, then, is clearly a wager at 5/61.84 with Sportsbook.
Multan need to keep the hammer down if they are to finish in the top two. Islamabad are breathing down their neck so a match against the dreadful Pindiz comes at the perfect time.
Sultans swatted aside Karachi Kings after a six-day break on Sunday. It was their fifth win from seven and the form guide suggests they should avoid the more dificult route to the final.
Steve Smith was our tip for top Sultans bat and he had a rare failure, recording a duck. Do we think there is something seriously wrong with his form and touch? Not a chance.
It is just one of those things that happens in the fast-paced chaos of T20. Batters have to take a risk and sometimes they get a good nut. We'll double down on runs for Smith this time by backing him for top match bat. The Pindiz batting is in such a dreadful state that it is, essentially, the same bet as top Sultans bat. Sportsbook offer 4/15.00.
