Rajasthan Royals v Mumbai Indians IPL team news

Rajasthan Royals' are two from two. They have been impressive so far and are reaping the benefits of having a powerful and fairly balanced set-up. They are not over-reliant on a top order or a middle and have the luxury of using Shimron Hetmyer at No 5.

If there is a worry it might be Jofra Archer at No 8 but he's hardly a mug with the willow. They were superb at the death against Gujarat Titans, closing out a game which they had lost control of despite taking regular wickets.

Possible XI: Jaiswal, Suryvanshi, Hetmyer, Jurel, Parag, Ferreira (sub Bishnoi), Jadeja, Archer, Burger, Sandeep

Mumbai Indians are expected to welcome back skipper Hardik Pandya after he missed the defeat against Delhi Capitals. The question after that result is whether MI were also suffering a short-term malady or is it something more alarming such as long-term inconsistency.

Rohit Sharma is subbing in and out for Mayank Markande. Corbin Bosch came into the side in place of Hardik. Mitch Santner made his first start of the season and offered good control. But the loss to DC was largely down to a disastrous batting powerplay when they failed to hit well.

Possible XI: Rickleton, Rohit (sub Markande), Tilak, Sky, Hardik, Dhir, Santner, Bosch, Shardul, Deepak

Rajasthan Royals v Mumbai Indians IPL pitch report

This is only the fifth night match played at Barspara. The fourth isn't particularly helpful as a guide. Poor weather meant the covers stayed on for Royals versus Chennai and the pitch swetaed. The result was seam and swing and a Chennai collapse. Thunderstorms are forecast so a repeat could be on the cards. So playing the highest total match runs line may have early appeal. The MI line is 182.5 at 5/61.84

Rajasthan Royals v Mumbai Indians IPL match prediction

Rajasthan are 2.427/5 outsiders. They are always worth a bet against Mumbai as they have proved to be their kryptonite often in the past with eight wins from the last 14, regardless of the fortunes of the two teams.

As stated, the toss could well be crucial so a pre-toss bet would have to recognise that batting first could be a problem. But Royals should be bang in the game charging in against Mumbai. We don't expect the odds to shorten much on the toss, if at all.

There is a suspcion that MI are, like a lot of teams, flat-track bullies. If a bit of nous and nuance is required on something sticky they could come up short. In that regard the loss to Delhi Capitals may be something of a form guide.

Related bets if we're right about bowlers dominating include the 11/26.50 about no fifty in the match and the unders market on first-over runs as batters decide to have a look.

Yas Jaiswal is the forgotten man of Indian batting. His hitting and aggression heralded a new era for India as the more circumspect approach of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli passed on. But others have gone past him, like Abhishek Sharma and team-mate Sooryavanshi. Jaiswal could serve up a reminder that he is the original firestarter. He is in the win zone for top Royals bat with a healthy hit rate and the 5/23.50 may be worth  a play.
