MEH! Late Night Poker in Cardiff - Annette_15

News RSS / Annette 15 / 31 October 2007 / 7 Comments

So I got to Cardiff to play on Late Night Poker. I was very excited and feeling good about my game, my tabledraw and everything. The line-up was pretty tough for my heat...

Was Marcel Luske, Jon Kalmar, a crazy guy called Kousher whose first name I forget, Robert Williams, a good Swedish guy named Fredrik and one more who busted the 2nd hand or so lol.

Anyway, my plan going into the event was to try to build a stack early and just run over them before they really knew what was happened to them. The structure was awful, so getting chips early was crucial for me to play my best and have a better chance of winning my heat.

I got off to a really bad start, where Kousher limped in the cut off at 25-50. I made it 225 to isolate with Jd3d. I had no clue who this guy was but my first impression was that he liked to call a lot. He was very chatty at the table, and immediately after I raise he goes: 'Position raise with 56 huh?' This of course lets me know that he knows i play position and have a wide range on the button. So since he knows that, I cant really put him on a strong hand because he woulda reraised me preflop then and said something stupid like 'Well missy, I dont believe u so im gonna raise u' or some other bullshit. But he just called, and so did Marcel from the BB.

The flop was Ax2d9d. Checked to me and I fired 450. Marcel folded and Kousher quickly called saying 'That flop didn't hit ur T9'. I quietly laugh inside, cuz that's such a stupid remark that only donks would say. Off to the turn which is the Ad and nails my flush. He checks, I bet 900 praying for him to have a weak ace, but he just calls again. The river is another diamond making it four to the flush on board and he immed bets 1850 into me. I think about it for a while, before mucking. I couldn't find any excuse to call that bet -it's hard to imagine him floating on the flop and the turn with absolutely nothing, and I also think he raises an A on the turn because of the flush draw. So makes me believe he's either got A9, A2, or 22. Maybe a 9 with the Kd or Qd. Turns out that he actually had Q9o without a diamond. Oh well. But I still had chips left.

Unfortunately I manage to give it all to him. This time he limps the CO again at 100-200. He has about 3k in his stack, so I ship my 2500 in on the button with A9 and he snapcalls me with QK. So much for taking the weak players' chips :/.

It was good experience, and loads of fun behind the scenes. They let us watch the action on a widescreen backstage with live action so we could see the hole cards and everything. And all the players who played in previous heats that day were there as well. Had some good discussions and met some new friends. :)

Thats all for this time. Will update again after Dublin.

Are you crazy? Why would you lay down a jack high flush? Surely in that game you have to assume people know you are super loose and wouldnt give you credit for any hand at all.

    doh!

Nothing wrong with laying down the flush, credit has to go to Kousher for an agressive play with no diamond, good luck in Dublin

I dont know what your starting stacks were, and it was probably a fairly standard fold in that spot, but do you think it might be worth looking him up if your really concerned with trying to acquire a big stack early?

i bet 2 dollars on you to take it down!

Hi Annette congrats on all your other Victories, playing Kouresh is a fun experience every time, that is for sure.

Kouresh is one of the old school pros, he's been playing forever and has plenty of respect. His 'Gob' is matched by few and he would stand up to Tony G and Mike Matusow working as a team.

    Keep up the fantastic work
    Best wishes

Excellent post, I think you made a great fold on the face of the evidence and would have done the same.

Well done in Dublin! Hope I never end up sitting on your right at the table like poor Luca!

    Hats off to your skill,
    Dan
