Timeform Preview: Sunday 30th March, Kempton 4:15
Timeform tell us what we can expect from this race...
A field of sixteen has been declared for the three-mile novice handicap at Kempton which is due off at 4.15. The favourite will almost certainly be the top-weight Krackatara, who would have been successful from this mark at Exeter last Thursday but for falling at the last, six lengths clear at the time. That was over nineteen furlongs but the chances are this longer trip will be within his grasp and, provided that race hasn't left a mark, he's clearly the one to beat turned out again quickly.
He certainly looks much better treated than Oniphlaure, whose attitude probably isn't all it might be and seems to have been harshly assessed stepping out of novice company for the first time. The Paul Nicholls-trained So Now is more interesting, 12 lb higher than when bolting up in a conditional jockeys event at Newbury towards the end of February but still relatively unexposed. Towards the bottom of the weights Tony McCoy's intended mount Open Season will have his supporters after showing improved form on his handicap debut a couple of weeks ago, beaten six lengths behind Sir Peter in a novice event at Exeter. He shaped that day as though this step up to three miles suit, though the yard has been short of winners for some time.
Double Shot has the pedigree of one who'll be suited by long distances, being by Double Trigger, and it could be he'll show improvement now he's sent handicapping, whilst Cave Hill is also unexposed at this sort of trip and hails from the Henrietta Knight yard which had four winners at Huntingdon last week.
