Paul Nicholls Breaking News: Tidal Bay out of the Grand National

Tidal Bay is out of the National

"The news through from Buffy is that Tidal Bay has a tiny stress fracture of the lower cannon bone on his right hind leg. He needs a month’s box rest, so that rules out the National."

Paul Nicholls has received the news that Tidal Bay has a tiny stress fracture and is out of the Grand National

I have got some bad news to report. Tidal Bay is out of the Grand National.

As previously mentioned, he was slightly lame before the Argento and we couldn't get him ready in time for that race, or the Irish Hennessy.

He was out cantering as usual on Monday and Tuesday, but on Wednesday we decided to step up his work.

But his work rider came back up and said he didn't feel right.

So we immediately called in Buffy and, after discussions, we got him down to Newmarket today for an MRI Scan.

The news through from Buffy is that Tidal Bay has a tiny stress fracture of the lower cannon bone on his right hind leg. This is something that the X-rays we took before his problem in the Argento didn't pick up; only today's MRI did.

He needs a month's box rest, so that rules out the National.

As soon as I got the news, I immediately rang Mr Wylie and we agreed to release this statement as soon as possible.

    BLESSING IN DISGUISE!

The horse is TWELVE and not the most fluent of jumpers and weighted to the hilt - so WHY send it ot the national at all?? Except the trainer was hoping it would win him the title again... IF he went to a National it needED to be the Welsh or Scottish IMVHO - the latter still possible and top weights have a good record there, EXCEPT you need to lay up with the pace at Ayr and this chacter won't

SO... just put him away and when well again come out and win a handful of Irish grade ones with the horse, PLEASE! He loves their ground, gets all the time to get into a race the way they ride their races and for once forget the title and think of the horse and the owner

I ve been to ditcheat walked round the yard the day after they lost pride of dulcote at ascot and I can assure you nothing matters more to them than the well fare of the horses the trainers championship is not the be all and end all as im sure Paul will tell you himself agreed tidal bay is getting on but since being at yard his jumping and form has improved and like us horse s get wiser as they get older

Real shame. Would have had a great chance of winning despite the weights. A real stayer and top grade horse. Couldnt see anything else beating it this year. Oh well, thats his chance gone as he'll be 13 next year. Still not impossible but will need a lot less weight and be in form.
