The Gigginstown House Stud-owned Last Instalment maintained his unbeaten start over fences when winning the Grade 1 Dr PJ Moriarty Novice Chase at Leopardstown on Sunday.

The seven-year-old went into the race with 5 lb in hand of his rivals on Timeform ratings and his class edge told, the [1.79] favourite jumping impressively to beat the first of the Mullins pair, the Paul Townend-ridden Call the Police by a length and a half.

Trainer Philip Fenton expressed himself more than satisfied at his star chaser's response to Davy Russell's urgings, Last Instalment repelling the challenge of his rivals having made most of the running.

Last Instalment did show a tendency to jump slightly right at his fences, but the way he sailed over and away from the last fences highlighted just how good a jumper he is.

Second favourite Lambro, the mount of Ruby Walsh, could do no better than third, with rank outsider Shot From The Hip a further eight and a half lengths adrift under Tony McCoy.

Last Instalment is currently trading at [8.4] for the RSA Chase, third favourite behind Grands Crus and Bobs Worth.
