Plumpton is the setting for Champion Jockey's remarkable achievement.

Tony McCoy finally landed the 3,000th ride of his jump racing career when landing the penultimate race at Plumpton today.

Nicky Henderson's Restless D'Artaix is the horse whose name will go down in the record books as McCoy's mount for the landmark win.

But just 20 minutes before the elation of the victorious moment it looked as though the day would end in disappointment for the Champion Jockey.

Coming up the home straight in the he 3.45 on Miss Sarenne it looked as though AP had the 3,000th win sealed following victory on Hello Moscow in the 3.10. But, potentially too eager, he ploughed through the last hurdle after £5,000 was traded on the win at [1.01].

The fear then took hold that he might get stuck one shy of the record on 2,999 to stretch what has been fairly tortuous progress for McCoy's pursuit of the milestone.

However, the 34-year-old made few mistakes aboard Restless D'Artaix in his final race holding off Timmy Murphy on The Package to land the victory.
