Hampered Tartan Bearer trades at [1.23] as Ballydoyle team tactics debate is bound to carry on...
IN an Irish Derby which threw up as many questions as it answered, Frozen Fire traded at [60.0] in running on Betfair en route to a controversial victory at the Curragh this afternoon.
But that only tells a small part of the tale as the race dramatically changed in the final furlong.
Tartan Bearer traded at [1.22] in running on Betfair before being taken across the track by Alessandro Volta, who was supported at [2.0] in the closing stages. Others to trade at massively reduced prices during the race included Casual Conquest at [2.6], and Curtain Call at [4.0]
Betfair spokesman Tony Calvin commented: "The race was clearly a massive in-running heat, but Betfair in-play place betting punters were quite cute.
"Tartan Bearer traded at the minimum price of [1.01] to be placed during the race, but the third horse past the past, Alessandro Volta, never traded at less than [1.1] to be in the first three.
"They clearly anticipated Alessandro Volta being thrown out of the first three, after a manouevre which is sure to fuel the Ballydoyle team tactics debate."
