It was a brilliant day on Saturday and we were almost in the money again on Sunday but McCoy couldn't quite work the miracle and Nightcru finished agonisingly second at decent odds. England lifted the Ashes however, and that fantastic victory made studying for Monday's racing very difficult. Fortunately they wrapped up the match pretty early and I was able to find a couple of very strong bets for Monday.

We have three meetings to concern ourselves with on Monday and to be honest there is not a great deal of quality on offer, but the job is to find winners which pay the same whether they are at York or on the all-weather.

Ryan Moore is aboard Serious Impact (4.30) who ran a good race in May to finish third in a much stronger contest at York. It is interesting that the four year-old has not raced since, but he is a lightly raced sort, making only his fourth career start with the booking of the champion jockey significant. John Gosden, I am sure, will be disappointed not to win this race against a modest looking field.

Frankie Dettori and Godolphin are red hot at the moment. Frankie did us a favour on Saturday with a truly brilliant ride on Fanjura and with a 40% strike rate he is riding winners for fun. Godolphin has a similar strike rate and both can enhance their statistics with handicap debutant Bawadi (4.40). Awarded a mark of 90 for a Kempton maiden win the three year-old is stepped up in trip by an extra two furlongs but on a surface that suits I see only one outcome. Bawadi is my best bet of the day.
