Carl Harris isn't inspired by poor quality races at Sedgefield and Southwell but he has found two bets...

It is a Tuesday in August but it feels like a winter's day looking at the cards. There's racing at two courses - on the all-weather at Southwell and jumps at Sedgefield - it really is shocking stuff and there's really not much to get excited about.

If you have things to do, like play golf or catch up on stuff you have recorded on Sky Plus then this is the day to get on and do it. It seems strange that just seven days ago we were at York watching Sea The Stars in the Juddmonte International, it's certainly back to earth with a bump. I will give you a couple of bets, but I advise very modest stakes.

Word of Warning (3.45) was a 14 length winner of a maiden hurdle last time out and has to give weight to all his rivals in this novice content today as a result. This is a race that will not take much winning with the absence of James Lambe's runner ensuring that a decent price will be offered about Martin Todhunter's charge. A major market move for Come Back to Me would be disconcerting but I really can't see Word of Warning getting beaten here.

Sir Mark Prescott does not run many in claimers but Kind Heart (4.00) looks a good thing here on the fibre-sand. I always make sure that any bet at Southwell has form on the surface and we can tick that box as she was a winner as a two year-old here. I don't think the trainer will be too upset if she is claimed but she should win this with plenty in hand. Sadly I doubt that we will get any sort of price, but it is that sort of day.
