Gordon Elliott: My thoughts on Cause Of Causes and others at Navan
Gordon Elliott on Cause Of Causes;
"This is a small field of four and while Midnight Game looks the one to beat, I'm fairly sure our lad won't be too far off and this could be very close."
Gordon Elliott spoke to Betfair about his three chances at Navan on Sunday, including recent Ladbroke Hurdle winner Cause Of Causes and the extremely tough Tarquinius...
12.45 Navan - Cause Of Causes
We were all over the moon with his latest win in the Ladbroke at Ascot last time out and he seems to be improving in leaps and bounds. This is a small field of four and while Midnight Game looks the one to beat, I'm fairly sure our lad won't be too far off and this could be very close. I've been asked about Cheltenham a few times but for now, we are taking it one step at a time and a race like the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury could be one to target provided he runs well here.
13.45 Navan - Barneys Honour
This is his second run for our yard so we are still learning about him but he ran a nice enough race at Limerick last time and he may have some more improvement to come. He should go well but he'll have to improve a good bit if he's to be in contention here and he should come on for the run.
15.15 Navan - Tarquinius
Having won two on the trot, the assessor has caught up with him so he looks badly handicapped here. But he's in good form and the prizemoney is good so we thought it might be worth letting him take a chance. If we can get him in to the Theyestes, that might be where he goes next. It's hard to say how he will go at these weights although the jockey is claiming 7lbs which should help his cause.
