Timeform previews the weekend racing action, with the focus on the final day of Glorious Goodwood...
"The Nassau has attracted a good field, with last year’s winner Midday set to face a stern challenge from top-notch French fillies Stacelita and Rosanara"
The Group 1 Nassau Stakes and the Stewards' Cup take centre stage on Saturday, as the five-day Glorious Goodwood festival draws to a close. The Nassau has attracted a good field, with last year's winner Midday set to face a stern challenge from top-notch French fillies Stacelita and Rosanara. Stacelita won three times at the top level last season, and impressed on her second start this season when taking a Group 3 at Longchamp, while Rosanara ran her best race this season on her latest start when second to stablemate Sarafina in the Prix de Diane. Another interesting contender is Strawberrydaiquiri, who could be a danger racing beyond a mile for the first time. Breeders' Cup winner Midday returned to action at York in May with a creditable run behind Sariska, and she looks set to be favourite as she attempts to secure back-to-back Nassau victories.
Another 2009 Glorious Goodwood winner looking to notch up back to back wins is Genki, and he is the likely favourite to win consecutive renewals of the Stewards' Cup. Others towards the head of the market in the ultra-competitive handicap include Bunbury Cup second Palace Moon and Sir Michael Stoute's Enact, who was second to Hawkeyethenoo when last seen at the Guineas meeting in May.
Sunday sees the return to action of superstar miler Goldikova in the Prix Rothschild at Deauville. The formidable Goldikova took her Group 1 tally to nine when beating Paco Boy in the Queen Anne last month, and she will be looking to register a hat-trick in the Rothschild, which is the first Group 1 of the Deauville summer meeting. Falmouth winner Music Show is possibly the chief threat, though it will be a major surprise if Goldikova doesn't land yet another Group 1 victory on Sunday. There is also listed action at Chester and Newbury on Sunday, while a good card takes place at Cork, with the Group 3 Give Thanks Stakes the highlight.
