Neil Munro continues his trading odyssey with a look at a few unexposed young horses that have shown a knack of turning a winning opportunity into defeat.

There is a risk involved in trading on horses with very few miles on the clock, because the key to them finding success could be discovered at any time. But overall you can still make money on horses that are learning their trade.

Misscomplacent: This two-year-old filly has only had five starts to date, all over five or six furlongs, but she already has the look of a horse that needs further. She looks a galloper to my eye and she could be interesting as a back to lay trading opportunity. But there is more to Misscomplacent than the trip. She has looked a hard ride in a finish with Barry McHugh having the pleasure each time. Connections tried cheek-pieces on her third run and then a visor on her last two starts. On four of her five starts she has traded considerably shorter in the run, including two odds-on trades. If kept to sprint distances, I will be looking to lay her in the run.

Wise Up: This three-year-old maiden has his mind on other things. Wise Up has only seen a racecourse three times so far and already has two odds-on trades on his in-running CV. Barry Hills trained Wise Up for his first two runs, starting out in an early season maiden over a mile at Newmarket where he received a small amount of support pre-race. He showed enough that day to suggest there was more to come and he was sent off 13/8 favourite on his next run down at Chepstow in a weak looking maiden. He travelled well enough in mid-division but when asked for an effort he flashed his tail and hung. Barry Hills had seen enough and he was sent to pastures new and gelded. This didn't result in a more straight-forward performance as he again used his tail to show his displeasure at being asked for an effort. I'm happy to try and take him on in the run.

Orchid Street: We're back to the female of the species this time with a slightly more exposed two-year-old who has actually won a race. But that was a pretty poor maiden at Catterick on her fourth start and other than that she has shown an unwillingness to go past other horses in a finish. In her six career defeats she has traded at [1.51], [2.32], [1.50], [2.0], [2.12] and last time out at [1.06]. I backed her, without putting up an in-running lay, so I may be talking with my pocket, but she should have gone past eventual winner First Class Favour. I am more than willing to lay her in the run unless it looks a very weak race.

Anacopa: Another three-year-old, with a slightly higher profile than the other horses I have mentioned, being part of the Godolphin operation but she doesn't look like one of their leading lights. Anacopa has broken her maiden tag, tasting victory on her third start at Lingfield over 10 furlongs, when I felt she nearly gave it away. Connections have kept her to 10 furlongs since but on her next two attempts she traded [1.61] and [1.12] in defeat. She lacks a change of gears and has also hung and turned it in under pressure. I'll be laying her in the run.
