Woods wins again but canny backers are on Parry

Australian veteran is backed at 499-1 when landing home open...

While Tiger Woods was busy showing the world's best that they are second best, 41-year-old Craig Parry rolled back the years to prove that home is where the heart is.

But while Woods was predictably low in the betting - never rising above [3.3] - Parry, a 10-time winner in Australia, was backed at a high of {500.0]!

Parry, for so long a fixture on the European and US Tours, has spent much of the last year playing in Japan to be nearer his family and was rewarded with the win at a course he has always loved. However, it will be England next summer for Parry who recieves an invite to the Open for his win.

Compatriots Nick O'Hern and Stuart Appleby came close to pegging the veteran back and traded at lows of [2.0] and [2.6] but could not get there.

There was another home winner at three figures in South Africa where unheralded James Kingston beat a field including home favourites Ernie Els, Retief Goosen and Trevor Immelman to land the SAA Open. Englishman Oliver Wilson looked likely to land a maiden Tour win and traded at [2.0] but chucked his chances of victory away with a poor start to his fourth round.

In California, Woods handed a select field of Europe, US and world talent a schooling in the game. The world no. 1 defeated his rivals by seven shots to land the Target World Challenge.
