Rose finally blooms into a real champion
Englishman matched at 150 for Order of Merit glory
Justin Rose became the European Tour's number one after clinching the
Order of Merit thanks to a play-off victory at the Volvo Masters in Valderrama.
Earlier in the season, the 27 year old Englishman was matched at (150) on
Betfair to be top of the tree come November.
Even with the absence of Order of Merit leader Ernie Els at Valderrama, a
rollercoaster third day saw Rose swap favouritism with fellow OM challenger,
Padraig Harrington.
When Rose's four stroke overnight advantage was wiped out in just two holes
by Harrington on Saturday, it was the Irishman who became (1.52)
favourite on Betfair to take the OM (he was also matched at (2.3) to win
the Masters title).
Nevertheless, Rose recovered to re-establish his four shot lead going into the
final day. After being matched at one stage at a high of (16.5) to win
the Volvo Masters, he secured the title following a three-way play-off with
Simon Dyson and Soren Kjeldsen.
