This weekend's wins were all about low prices, says Joe Dyer
When do you get odds of [7.6] on Tiger Woods winning a tournament? In-running on Betfair when he's seven shots off the pace after the cut of course.
Whether that's good value or not is academic really because, this being Woods, he of course turned the deficit around to post another win in a truly remarkable career.
Any other golfer would surely have been triple figures or thereabouts.
In fact the story of the tournament in question - the Arnold Palmer Invitational - was all about low prices.
While Woods was fumbling and drifting to that single figure 'high', two others - Bubba Watson and Bart Bryant - went odds-on at [1.5] and [1.8] respectively but came up short. Another, a rejuvenated Vijay Singh, nearly joined those two hitting [2.06] while firmly in the mix for another win in what has been a stellar career.
On the European Tour (this week in Korea), Jeev Milkha Singh hit heavy odds-on again but ended up in second place.
The Indian star touched a low of [1.14] while holding a significant lead at the Ballantines Championship but was overhauled by Graeme McDowell (himself matched at [34.0]) after a dramatic three-hole play-off.
The winning pair tee it up at the World Golf Championship at Doral this weekend. Woods is currently [1.98] and McDowell [160.0].
