Meet The British WSOP Bracelet Winners -- All 25 Of Them!

There are less than 100 days to go until the 2014 World Series of Poker kicks off and tens of thousands of players descend on Las Vegas in the hope of winning a WSOP bracelet. 

While everyone here at Betfair Towers is happy when anyone wins a bracelet, this particular scribbler is ever-so-slightly biased and loves it more when British players win some poker jewellery. 

There have been 25 British players who have won a combined 28 bracelets between them, and you can find them all below.

Matt Perrins - 2 bracelets

Rochdale's Matt Perrins is one of only three British players to have won more than one bracelet. Perrins famously won his first bracelet in 2011 when he took down the $1,500 No Limit 2-7 Lowball event having never played the game before!

In 2013, Perrins won the $5,000 No Limit Hold'em event for a career best $792,275 and his second piece of poker gold.

Praz Bansi - 2 bracelets

Praz Bansi won the first of his two bracelets in 2006 when he finished with all of the chips in play in the $1,000 No Limit Hold'em event, taking home $230,209 in the process. 

Four years later, Bansi struck gold again when he won a $1,500 No Limit Hold'em event for $515,501.


J.P. Kelly - 2 bracelets

JP Kelly won two bracelets in 2009, one in Las Vegas and the other in London at the WSOP Europe. Kelly almost made it three bracelets in 2010, but lost heads-up to fellow Brit Scott Shelley.

Matthew Ashton

Matthew Ashton WSOP.jpg

Liverpool's Matthew Ashton was shot to poker stardom in 2013 when he outlasted one of the toughest fields ever assembled in the $50,000 Poker Players Championship. Ashton is one of the best all-round poker players in the world and winning this event adds more credit to those claims.

Barny Boatman

Barny Boatman, part of the famous Hendon Mob, won his bracelet in 2013 amid emotional scenes. Boatman has been travelling the live poker circuit for years and had always wanted to win a WSOP bracelet. Last year he got his wish.

Craig McCorkell

Craig McCorkell WSOP.jpg

Craig McCorkell's win in the $3,000 No Limit Hold;em Shootout at the 2012 WSOP was the United Kingdom's only bracelet win that year. It was also McCorkell's largest ever live tournament cash, topping the scales at $368,593.

Darren Woods

Darren Woods won a $2,500 No Limit Hold'em Six-Max event in 2011, banking $213,431 in the process. Woods cashed two more times that summer and hasn't cashed in a live tournament since!

Jake Cody

Jake Cody's win in the $25,000 No Limit Hold'em Heads-Up Championship in 2011 completed the Rochdale-lad's Triple Crown of titles -- Cody had previously won a World Poker Tour and European Poker Tour title.

James Bord

In 2010, at the WSOP Europe in London, James Bord helped himself to the £830,401 top prize in the Main Event. Bord, a keen sports bettor, defeated the likes of Nicholas Levi and Roland de Wolfe on his way to victory.

Scott Shelley

Scott Shelley caused an upset in 2010 when he prevented JP Kelly from completing a hat trick of WSOP bracelets. Shelley, a former customer service rep with an online poker site, has been a sponsored pro ever since.

Steve Jelinek

Steve Jelinek won the $1,500 Pot Limit Omaha Hi/Low event at the 2010 WSOP in Las Vegas. Jelinek retired as a professional poker players, but can still be found playing in tournaments in the UK.

Mike Ellis

Cash game specialist Mike Ellis won $581,851 and a bracelet when he finished with all the chips in the $1,500 No Limit Hold'em event at the 2010 WSOP.

Richard Ashby

Mixed game expert Richard "Chufty" Ashby secured a piece of poker jewellery when he won the 2010 $1,500 Seven Card Stud event.

James Dempsey

James "Flushy" Dempsey almost won two bracelets in the space of a week when he won the $1,500 Pot Limit Hold'em event and then lost heads-up to Sammy Farha in the $10,000 Omaha Hi/Low Championship in 2010.

John Kabbaj

John Kabbaj may have won the 2009 Pot Limit Hold'em Championship and banked $633,335 but it was the gaff by the WSOP that is remembered more. Upon collecting his bracelet, Kabbaj was expecting to hear God Save The Queen national anthem, but the Sex Pistols' version blared out instead!

Rolande de Wolfe

Roland de Wolfe, seemingly retired from tournament poker now, won his bracelet in 2009 by taking down the $5,000 Pot Limit Omaha Hi/Low event, a result that netted the popular pro $246,616.

Ram Vaswani

Ram "Crazy Horse" Vaswani's bracelet was won in 2007 when he outlasted 781 other players in the $1,500 Limit Hold'em Shootout.

John Gale

2006 was John Gale's year to shine and that he did when he won the $2,500 Pot Limit Hold'em event for over $374,000.

Lawrence Gosney

Lawrence Gosney.jpg

Lawrence Gosney shot to fame in 2005 by winning the $2,000 No Limit Hold'em event for over $483,000.

James Vogl

James "Lucky Jim" Vogl was certainly lucky in 2004 as he claimed the title of $2,000 No Limit Hold'em champion, a result that bagged him a cool, round $400,000.

Hemish Shah

Hemish Shah was a poker loving stockbroker who won a bracelet in 2001 when he won a $5,000 Limit Hold'em event. Sadly, Shah died of a heart attack in September of the same year aged only 33.

Steve Rydel

Steve Rydel's win in the $3,000 Pot Limit Hold'em event at the 1998 WSOP was only the fourth bracelet won by a Brit.

David "Devilfish" Ulliott

In 1997, Dave "Devilfish" Ulliott won the $2,000 Pot Limit Hold'em event and a poker star was born. Devilfish has since gone on to win over $6.1 million from live poker tournaments.

Frank Thompson
