10 of the Best Poker Bluffs You'll Ever See!

Bluffing is exciting and fun, but also necessary in order to succeed at poker. If you thought you were cool when you triple-barrel bluffed with king-high in a $0.25/$0.50 cash game at Betfair Poker, God only knows what you will think when you watch some of these crazy bluffs from the world of high stakes poker.

One of the great things about poker is you do not have to have the best hand in order to win a pot, sometimes you only need a big pair of balls!

10: The Bluff That Ignited the Poker Boom

Similar lists have this bluff at the very top due to its importance to the poker world. While we agree that the bluff ranks among the most important, we also believe there are better bluffs to show you folks.

This bluff was what ignited the poker boom in 2003. It showed the world that an amateur player could lock horns with a seasoned pro and beat him at his own game. Step forward Chris Moneymaker.

9: Scotty Nguyen bluffs Humberto Brenes with Eight-three offsuit!

Scotty Nguyen is a former World Series of Poker Main Event champion and one of the most flamboyant characters the game has ever seen. He can also stick his cash in with only eight-three offsuit and reel one-liners off like they are going out of fashion.

Nguyen opened to 21,000 with 8c-3s, an act which in itself was a bluff. Costa Rican pro Humberto Brenes gesticulated his intention to raise and he did just that, setting the price to play at 40,000 with the far superior As-10c. Despite only holding eight-three offsuit, Nguyen raised to 100,000 saying, "This is the greatest move I ever made!"

When Brenes eventually folded, Nguyen said, "That's no limit, baby!" Indeed it is Scotty, indeed it is.

8: Lex Veldhuis Bluffs Brian Pinkus

Dutchman Lex Veldhuis is one of the loosest and most aggressive players the game has ever seen and although it is a style that often gets him into trouble at the tables, sometimes he gets to his bluffs through because his opponents cannot put him on a hand at all.

What makes this bluff all the more impressive is the fact he had been running over the table for the past few levels and showing plenty of bluffs. Despite his crazy image, Veldhuis fired two streets with absolutely no hand at all and even showed this bluff, too!

7: Marcello Marigliano Plays Tom Dwan at His Own game!

Three years ago, when Tom "durrrr" Dwan was in his prime, he issued a live heads-up challenge that saw a number of his online opponents take him on in the live arena. One such opponent was Marcello "luckexpress" Marigliano, a player who Dwan had tangled with online on many occasions.

Getting your stack into the middle with king-nine high against Dwan (who was in his prime at this point) is no mean feat at all, especially when you take a weird triple-float river-shove line!

6: Phil Hellmuth Plays the Seven-Deuce Game

The competitors on High Stakes Poker used to play a game where if anyone one a pot with seven-deuce and showed their bluff, they received a decent pay out from every other player at the table. One player that you would not expect to show up with seven-deuce is Phil Hellmmuth.

One of the best things about this hand is when Mike Matusow, who convinces himself to fold pocket kings, says something about Hellmmuth never betting on the river without a big hand. Nice read, Mike. Nice read.

5: Brad Booth bluffs Phil Ivey off pocket kings with only four-deuce suited!

This hand took place on the now defunct High Stakes Poker and involved Brad Booth and the legendary Phil Ivey. David Williams opened the betting with a raise to $1,800 with Js-9c and Booth opted to three-bet to $5,800 with the lowly 4s-2s. Ivey woke up with a pair of red kings and four-bet to $14,000. Any normal player would have folded their weak hands at this point, but Booth stuck around and called.

Ivey greeted the 3d-7s-6d flop with a $23,000 bet from Ivey and the hand looked to be over. However, Booth had other plans and he raised all in for $300,000, as you would with four-high against the best poker player in the world! It was a ballsy move and one that ultimately worked because Ivey let his pocket kings go and Booth scooped the pot.

4: Phil Ivey Five-Bet Shoves with Five Deuce Offsuit

Most people would not consider ever bluffing with 5s-2d, but Phil Ivey is not most people. In this epic bluff, Ivey first three-bets Barry Greenstein's opening raise and then five-bet's all in when Lex Veldhuis four-bets. Ivey's final bet was for over $197,000! Watch the video and let us know what you think.

3: Isaac Haxton Wins the Leveling War with Ryan Daut

This next hand is straight from the textbook "How to play the player and not your cards," and show the high level of thinking the best poker players are on. This hand could easily have been number one on our list because, well, the hand is brilliant! Check it out and clear some space for your jaw to hit the table!

2:Paul Jackson and Phil Ivey; Bluff vs Bluff

The Paul Jackson versus Phil Ivey bluff is one that is constantly talked about by poker players around the world. We have nothing more to say other than watch this clip because it is ridiculous!

1: THAT Tom Dwan Hand from High Stakes Poker

Once again, Tom Dwan turns up with a fantastic bluff and again from ridiculously large sums of money. We found this video clip where Dwan explains his thought process throughout the hand, even accurately putting each of his talented opponents on the hands that they held. The hand is truly amazing!
