Michael Guttman has been crowned champion of Event #3 of the 2013 Aussie Millions, after he outlasted a 210 strong field to get his hands on a coveted Aussie Millions gold ring and $44,100 in prize money.
Event #3 was the $1,100 buy-in No Limit Hold'em Shooutout, a popular form of the game that suits sit 'n' go players perfectly. The 210 starters were spread across 21 tables and the winner of each table progressed to the next round, and the money places. The 21 table winners were then seated on three seven-handed tables, with the top three players from each of those tables making up the final table.
2013 Aussie Millions Event #3 Final Table Seat Draw

Seat 2: Shane Foglietta: 29,975
Seat 3: David Heskin: 17,500
Seat 4: Daniel DiPasquale: 8,575
Seat 5: Michael Guttman: 19,250
Seat 6: Phillip Siddell: 29,500
Seat 7: Frank Tripodi: 10,075
Seat 8: Peter Longmore: 41,275
Seat 9: Peter Evans: 42,500
Each of the final table members was guaranteed at least $6,300 for the efforts and the first player to claim this amount was David Heskin. Heskin's chips went into the middle with As-7d and he needed to hit to defeat the Jh-Jc of Peter Evans. A seven on the flop gave Heskin some hope, but he could not find any more of his outs and his exit in ninth place was confirmed when the final board read 8c-10h-7s-10s-10c.
Following Heskin to the rail was Frank Tripodi who had been nursing a short stack since the final table started. He chose Ks-Qs to move all-in with but he was in very bad shape when called by the pocket kings of Guttman. Tripodi had a myriad of outs he could have hit by the 10d-2c-7c-Jc turn, but the 3s river was a brick and Tripodi exited in eighth place.
With the blinds increasing to 1,000/2,000/200a a number of the seven remaining players needed to start accumulating chips sooner rather than later, the aforementioned Evans being one such player. He moved his less than 10-big blind stack into the middle with pocket fours and found a caller in the shape of Guttman, who had been dealt As-Qs. The first card onto the flop was the Ad and when the Ac on the turn gifted Guttman trip aces, Evans was drawing dead.
Mark Malecha became the sixth place finisher when he fell victim to a cold deck. Maleca was extremely short stacked - down to around six big blinds - when he moved all-in with what turned out to be Qh-8h. He picked up a caller in the shape of Shane Foglietta and his Jh-Tc and Malecha was in relatively good shape to double up. His chances of that happening increased when he paired his queen on the 3s-Qd-4h flop, but when the turn and river were the 9h and 8s respectively, Foglietta had made a straight and Malecha headed out of the tournament area.
Fifth place was awarded to Peter Longmore, the next victim of Guttman. Like Tripodi earlier, Longmore chose Ks-Qs as the hand to try and double up with again Guttman woke up with a superior hand; this time the As-Qd. Guttamn turned an ace to leave Longmore drawing dead.
The eliminations continued at a frantic pace when Daniel DiPasquale exited in fourth place, again at the hands of Guttman who it seemed could do no wrong. DiPasquale's final hand saw him move in with Qh-10c and run straight into the pocket queens of Guttman. Neither player improved by the river and the tournament became three-handed.
Three became two with when Phillip Siddell was knocked out. Siddell three-bet all-in for 30,700 chips with Jh-Js and Guttman called with ace-three of diamonds. The jacks of Siddell stayed ahead on the flop but then fell way behind when the Ac landed on the turn. The river was no help to either player and the tournament was paused briefly whilst the table was prepared for the heads-up stage.
Upon the final table restarting, Guttman held a 120,000 to 90,000 chip lead over Foglietta, and with blinds set at 1,500/3,000/300a the crowd that had gathered to watch Event #3's final table were expecting plenty of action. However, the one-on-one battle was over after just a single hand! The chips went flying into the centre of the table on a Qh-Qs-9d-2s board, Foglietta all-in and at risk of elimination with Kh-9c. His exit was confirmed when Guttman turned over Qd-3s for trip queens! To rub a little salt into Foglietta's wounds the river was the Kd and Event #3 of the 2013 Aussie Millions was completed.
