How will the Timeform team fare on Tuesday?

The racing experts at Timeform deliver a trio to back on Tuesday taking in the action at Ffos Las, Newton Abbot and Newbury

15:30, Ffos Las - English Time can open his account

English Time showed ability on his debut towards the backend of last season, but physically, he was always the type to do better as a three-year-old, and he's duly shown improved form in a couple of starts this year.

He hit the frame in a race which is working out extremely well at Newbury on his return last month, doing all of his best work at the finish, and he progressed further when narrowly denied at Doncaster recently.

That race was won by a potentially smart type and English Time pushed him very close, going like the best horse at the weights, but not having the same professionalism as the winner. He was given the Horse In Focus Flag, to highlight he's one to keep on side, and he should be able to go one place better now.

19:15, Newton Abbot - Phantom Gold the one to beat

Phantom Gold looked a bright prospect when making a winning start in a bumper at Newbury in the summer of 2023, but he was seemingly hard to train afterwards given he was off the track for nearly three years.

He made his belated reappearance in April this year having moved to the Jennie Candlish yard, and he's shown improvement in each start, the latest on his handicap debut at Southwell a fortnight ago.

Phantom Gold went through that race like a very well handicapped horse, powering home under tender handling from a poor position, earning himself the Horse In Focus Flag. The handicapper has raised him 4lb, but he still makes plenty of appeal, and should be hard to beat for an in-form yard.

20:05, Newbury - Taritino can defy a penalty

Taritino had a good spell over hurdles in the spring and, returned to the Flat, he's also been in good form, building on his runner-up effort at Bath when resuming winning ways over a mile and a half at Salisbury nine days ago.

He had won that race in 2024 and he was readily on top from a lenient mark, travelling well throughout and produced to lead in the final furlong.

Taritino readily stretched clear to beat the favourite and he remains with plenty of handicapping scope turned out under a 5lb penalty with this significant step up to a mile not expected to be a problem.
