Timeform pick out the horses of interest on Thursday

Timeform highlight three horses of interest at Lingfield and Thurles on Thursday.

  • Unexposed Maskatto can strike on handicap debut

  • King's Hand can reverse form with Tommy's Promise

  • Where Are You Now can make amends for narrow miss

Lingfield, 13:50 - Improving Maskatto has more to offer

Maskatto proved generally progressive in maidens and took a small step forward to get off the mark over this course and distance nearly four weeks ago.

Maskatto was tackling a mile for the first time and needed nearly every yard of the trip to reel in the front runner, ultimately getting the verdict by a head with the runner-up seven lengths clear of the third.

He enters handicap company on a fair mark based on that effort - he narrowly heads Timeform's weight-adjusted ratings - and is the only runner in this line-up with the Timeform 'small p' to show that further improvement is expected.

Lingfield, 15:20 - Top-rated King's Hand can build on latest promise

King's Hand had disappointed on a few occasions after making such a promising handicap debut at Wolverhampton in October, but he got back on track when third behind the reopposing Tommy's Promise over this course and distance 12 days ago.

King's Hand settled much better than usual with a hood applied for the first time, but he found himself further back than ideal in a race run at a stop-start gallop and was at a disadvantage compared to the winner, who was always prominent and well placed when the gallop lifted.

King's Hand could never get close enough to challenge, but he stuck to his task well in the straight and can have his effort upgraded. He has generously been eased 1 lb and looks on a fair mark, heading Timeform's weight-adjusted ratings by 2 lb.

Thurles, 15:25 - 'Horse In Focus' Where Are You Now can carry on improving

Where Are You Now improved markedly on his efforts in maiden company when only narrowly missing out on his handicap debut at Punchestown this month, earning the Horse In Focus Flag from Timeform's reporter to mark him out as one likely to be of firm interest next time.

He was denied by only a head on that occasion and looked unlucky not to win as a mistake at the second last cost him more ground than he was beaten.

He still has the Timeform 'small p' and can raise his game again, with the step up to two and a half miles likely to suit based on how well he rallied up the run-in at Punchestown.
