14:20, Newmarket - return to further will suit Cathedral

This looks a competitive renewal of the Dahlia Stakes for older fillies and mares with a field of 13 making it the first double-figure line-up since 2011. There are a couple a little ahead of the rest on Timeform ratings, however, and that pair, Cathedral and Survie, finished third and fourth respectively in the listed Snowdrop Stakes at Kempton in March.

Neither ran up to their smart best there, though the mile trip was probably on the short side for both, while for Cathedral it was also her first run of the year so she's entitled to come on for the run more than Survie who had run twice already. The extra furlong here should suit Cathedral as she finished 2025 with a career best effort when stepped to eleven furlongs for the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf, finishing fourth at Del Mar to Gezora.

Amo Racing's filly has kept good company ever since making a successful debut at two for Ralph Beckett and, with that Kempton run under her belt, she can add to that success. Now with the in-form Kevin Philippart de Foy, who has the 'Hot Trainer' flag, Cathedral also has the 'Horses For Courses' flag, having run well in the Oh So Sharp Stakes here at two.

15:48, Salisbury - Plaid a progressive and top rated Horse In Focus

James Fanshawe had nine winners during April, earning himself the 'Hot Trainer' flag, and he can strike again with his sole runner of the day which is Plaid in the fillies' handicap at Salisbury.

The daughter of Ghaiyyath has had just the three starts, all over a mile, and she got off the mark at the second attempt at two when winning a novice at Kempton in December, running green but shaping as though she'll stay further than the dam's side of her pedigree might suggest.

Plaid returned to Kempton for her handicap debut on her reappearance in March and, while she couldn't justify significant support, she showed improved form to finish second. Leading a furlong out, she was headed in the final hundred yards but kept on to be beaten a neck by Art Gallery, earning the 'Horse In Focus' flag. Heading the Timeform weight-adjusted ratings and open to further improvement over this longer trip, she can resume winning ways.

15:53, Hamilton - Izzari down in grade after shaping well last time

Izzari looks to have returned in top form this season and can be another Hamilton winner for Dumfries trainer Iain Jardine who struck seven times at the track last season. Izzari isn't the easiest to predict but he came to hand early last season too, springing a 16/1 surprise on his reappearance at Musselburgh over a mile in April, and going in again under another patient ride at Newcastle last September, this time over a mile and a quarter.

Returning this season at Newcastle in March, Izzari gave the impression he would have been right in the mix again on his reappearance with more luck in running. However, he didn't get a clear run over two furlongs out but once getting a gap approaching the final furlong he finished well under just hands and heels to claim fourth, beaten only around a length and a half behind the bang in-form winner Saytarr who was completing a hat-trick and ran well again in a better race at Ascot on Friday.

For Izzari, though, this represents a drop in grade from that competitive class 4 handicap in which he earned the 'Horse In Focus' flag. Off the same mark as at Newcastle, he should be a major player here.
