Carlisle is one of Monday's two jumping cards

Timeform highlight three horses of interest at Carlisle and Kempton on Monday...

  • The Widdow Maker can build on encouraging return back in veterans company

  • Chase A Fortune weighted to atone for recent fall back over hurdles

  • She Is For Me Boys from stable in top form

13:15, Carlisle - Veterans chase can go to Horse In Focus The Widdow Maker

The Widdow Maker had been absent for nearly two years when returning to action in February but after a couple of runs over hurdles had put him right, he showed that he retains plenty of his old ability when successful in a veterans' chase at Exeter the following month.

The Widdow Maker is only a 1 lb higher in the weights now and gave the impression he'll be competitive off his current mark back against fellow veterans after an encouraging return at Stratford last month. Challenging at the last, he wound up third behind a rival five years his junior, Be Aware, having his first start over fences.

The Widdow Maker earned the 'Horse In Focus' flag for that effort and heads the Timeform weight-adjusted ratings here, while Joe Tizzard has the 'Hot Trainer' flag and made the long journey up from Dorset worthwhile when having a winner at Carlisle's last meeting just eight days ago.

14:48, Carlisle - Kelso faller Chase A Fortune one to note back over hurdles

It's been a while since Chase A Fortune got his head in front for Chris Grant, last doing so over fences at Catterick early in 2024. But he shaped as if back in top form last time and back over hurdles he may well be capable of taking advantage of being just 1 lb above that last winning mark.

Placed twice last season, Chase A Fortune clearly needed the run after eleven months off at Sedgefield in October but was in the process of showing a lot more at Kelso last time. Travelling best, he led on the bridle three out before quickening clear briefly on the home turn and was being ridden along in a lead of around three lengths when coming down at the next.

Favourite Too Cool Forshrule unseated at the same fence when looking the more likely winner of the pair and has gained compensation since, so it wouldn't be a surprise if Chase A Fortune did the same, especially if he can get more of an uncontested lead than last time.

15:05, Kempton - Stable form a plus for She Is For Me Boys on chase debut

Tizzard will also be trying to win the mares' handicap chase at Kempton for the second year running with Ilovethenightlife, but Jamie Snowden is another 'Hot Trainer' with his yard in flying form and could prove hard to beat here with chasing debutant She Is For Me Boys.

The former Irish point winner is making a quick switch to the larger obstacles after just three runs over hurdles. After finishing second at Plumpton in April, She Is For Me Boys progressed to win both her novices at Fontwell in the early months of the current season. She was helped by a couple of her rivals falling at the last on the first occasion but ran out a clear-cut winner when following up under a penalty in June.

Ilovethenightlife is the one she has to beat, but She Is For Me Boys is getting plenty of weight from last year's winner and she looks the type to take well to fences.
