Horse Racing Tips: Katie Midwinter's best bets on Thursday including 25/1 Southwell pick

Katie Midwinter has tips at Warwick, Thurles, Lingfield and Newcastle on Thursday

Horse racing tipster Katie Midwinter has selections at Warwick, Thurles, Lingfield and Newcastle on the Betfair Sportsbook this Thursday...

Thurles, 12:20 - Back Stoneyford Lady @ 7/24.50

A half-sister to Captain Guinness, Stoneyford Lady is one to note from a mark of 97 in this extended 2m2f contest following two second-placed efforts at Tramore and over this course-and-distance last month.  She has been running well in defeat recently, including on chasing debut in her latest start, and there should be further improvement to come from the six-year-old mare.

Trained by Henry de Bromhead, Stoneyford Lady had shown glimpses of potential over hurdles previously, including when fourth to Tullyhill on debut at Naas. She could be most effective over the larger obstacles and, despite being a 10-race maiden, may prove worth keeping the faith in. It was a promising start over fences for the daughter of Valirann recently, and Stoneyford Lady is a mare to keep onside from a potentially lenient mark.

Lingfield, 13:55 - Back Pique' E/W @ 25/126.00

James Fanshawe-trained Pique' makes each-way appeal on the back of good victory at Nottingham, stepping up to Stakes level for the first time into Listed company. Whilst she has plenty to find on ratings, she is unexposed coming into the race and could have further improvement to come as a stayer.

A daughter of Nathaniel, Pique' isn't shy on stamina and made a successful start over a mile-and-three-quarters last year, coping well with heavy conditions to prevail by three-and-a-half-lengths in her first start over further than a mile-and-a-half. She had a string of seconds to her name prior to that success, and was able to defend her title in the same race when last seen.

This requires significant improvement, however, she has enough staying capabilities to run on well enough to be finishing strongly and potentially land a placed finish in the closing stages.

At odds of 25/126.00, Pique' shouldn't be completely discounted and may be able to outrun her odds under Jack Doughty.

Warwick, 14:20 - Back Dream Shadow @ 2/13.00

Six-year-old mare Dream Shadow could take a step forward from her seasonal reappearance at Uttoxeter last month when a close second to La Conquiere, who had previously finished half-a-length second to Seo Linn in a Grade Two Aintree bumper.

The point winner finished third in her first start under Rules, before beating subsequent winner Strong Run, who finished third to Seo Linn in a Listed Cheltenham bumper in her following start, to win. She then finished third in Listed company at Market Rasen, before placing to Charisma Cat in another Listed contest at Sandown.

Considering the strong form she has shown to date against talented mares, Dream Shadow is one to note in her novice hurdling campaign this term. She has shown to possess plenty of ability and has the scope for further progression.

A likeable type whose reappearance represents a strong formline and who has the benefit of a recent run, Dream Shadow holds solid claims and may prove tough to beat under Johnny Burke.

Warwick, 14:55 - Back Geturguccion @ 13/27.50

Making her seasonal reappearance in this two-and-a-half-mile handicap, Geturguccion is one to watch for Alan King. The six-year-old remains a maiden following six starts under Rules, but has shown plenty of talent following two placed efforts in points.

On Rules debut at Newbury, she was only narrowly denied by now 125-rated Jasmine Bliss. She couldn't make an impact in a run worth forgiving at Cheltenham in her following start, but finished second in both of her subsequent two outings to now 125-rated Dameofthecotswolds and future Grade One winner Julius Des Pictons, respectively.

Although the daughter of Getaway didn't feature in her penultimate start at Newbury, she put in an improved effort in her latest run at the same venue to finish a four-length fourth at odds of 28/129.00 and, from a mark of 107 on chasing debut here, could be able to make the frame. She has previous point experience which should hold her in good stead and has run well fresh in the past, which is another positive.

Southwell, 18:30 - Back Running Queen E/W @ 25/126.00

Kingman filly Running Queen shaped with great potential during her juvenile campaign last term, finishing a creditable fourth on debut before beating subsequent Listed winner Betty Clover at Salisbury. She then placed in Listed company at both York and Newmarket, earning herself a mark of 90.

On her reappearance as a three-year-old, the Ollie Sangster-trained contender couldn't make a significant impression behind Lady With The Lamp in Listed company at Chelmsford, and hasn't been seen to best effect in two runs since either, but it may be too early to give up on her. She drops in class here, which could allow her to return to some form, and is now 7lb below her handicap debut mark.

At a price of 25/126.00, Running Queen is one to note each-way from a potentially workable mark. She was a talented juvenile, and though she is yet to prove she has trained on, may prove worth keeping onside.

Newcastle, 19:45 - Back Yellow Lemons E/W @ 9/110.00

Siyouni filly Yellow Lemons remains a maiden following 15 starts but put in a competitive effort in second in her penultimate start over course-and-distance, and could be worth keeping onside based on that effort. She has dropped 15lb from her opening mark, now rated 46, and is on the same rating as her recent placed effort here.

When runner-up at the track last month, Yellow Lemons was seen staying on strongly in the closing stages to outrun her odds of 20/121.00. There could be further improvement to come from her and she has run well at the course previously, therefore is one to note under 3lb claimer William Pyle.

Trained by Katie Scott, the four-year-old has shown to possess some ability and her latest run may be worth forgiving considering her slow start. She was staying on well enough late on despite having plenty of ground to make up, and, with a quicker start, should fare better.
